:!:

november 2000 I was prescribed to take the pill Diane-35, for the acne i had. I was so happy because acne disappeared. I was taking it for one year, till august 2001 and then i noticed that my hair started to thin out, and to be very dry (not talking about the weight gain and breast, legs pain, cellulite). My skin become very dry too. I stopped taking Diane, even if the doctor didnt agree with me, he said that Diane helps for hair growth, but for me it wasnt the case. So i stopped taking Diane. Acne came back, and my hair started to fall out !!! ( it was november 2001) badly. My hair is almost gone by now and i dont have any regrowth, which has changed my life 100%.
I went to see many doctors looking for the help, I did all the test for my blood and hormones, everything was fine. One thing that doctors found that I have a micro Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
(many doctors say it can not be a problem for hair loss because it is just micro PPOS). But doctors gave me some stuff which made the situation even worth. It was the hormone (Estraderm TTS 25 patch and Androcur) that usually is prescribed for women in menopause (I am 27!). This Estraderm, the hormone messed up with my menstrual cycle (which before was very regular) and i got a big pain on my breasts and legs, I just stopped taking it when I found on the internet that taking it I can get a cancer and I wont be able to have children.(and doctor from US did agree with it and told me to stop it immediatly). After I stopped the patch i had very hard time recovering from it > My hair was going out clumbs again. I don’t have hair left on my body, I lost them also after I stopped taking Diane. (I ve stopped Diane 2 years ago) I am taking all the vitamins I need , eating very healthy natural food (by the way I am a vegetarian) but looks like nothing works anymore. I am so depressed and desperated. I hate the day I started taking Diane and messed my body for ever ?? Hair loss wasnt only one thing, I ve got a cellulite from it too...

Now it is more than two year that I stopped all synthetical things, I mean I dont take any medicine....hoping that my body would recover from it.... but it is getting just worse, I can not hide anymore the hair loss problem from others everybody started to notice it... I have very itchy scalp, I loose 500-600 hair every day, even if i try not to brush it, it falls out anyway and it started to be not stright but weired curly (just because it is too weak) and very dry, and i dont have any regrowth, the same is happening with my body hair , from my "public places" which is not normal I suppose... I dint take any chemicals for 2 years, I just was taking vitamins and "saw palmetto", I feel like I am doing everything right, but my hair situation is getting worse and worse, I am getting seriously bald....
And also acne got really bad, for to have acne beeing 26 I think is not very normal too, also I have a strange acne, because i have it not only on my face and back, but also on my arms and some on my legs.
I started to think about going back on the pill, which I know is not a solution, but at least maybe it could help a little? but I am afraid that when i will have to stop it all the rest of my hair will fall at once....(this happened when i stopped Diane). I believe I am very sensative to synthetical hormones.
2 week ago i started taking another birth control pill....as all doctors were telling it is only one hope to stop hair loss! it is a night mare, my hair loss is much worse now ....i have real nightmares every night that i am getting bald and how i am going to live.... I really believe that there is a way to fix this hair loss as the cause was the Diane pill, but the problem is that nobody really wants to do some research on it, to understand it....

Hi Karina,

This is Laura, we have exchanged a few emails...I forgot though if your androgen levels were high? And what is your new birth control, Mircette?

As for losing 500 - 600 hairs daily, do you wash your hair every day?

Also, did you get your ferritin levels checked?

Can you look into taking Accutane for acne?

Good luck, come back and let us know how you're doing :)

the pill is increasing my hair loss

Hi Karina,

I hope i am responding correctly to your story.. I am new to this service and still trying to figure this site out... I was reading your story and I was thinking to myself how similar my experience has been. I am also 27 and went on the pill a year ago for the first time in about 7 years. I finished 1 cycle, hated it, and went off. Immediately going off, my hair started to shed. I have very thin hair to begin with and losing it was freaking me out. I figured there was some sort of imbalance with my hormones and it just needed time to readjust. I went to the dermatologist and all my blood work came back normal. She said it would just take some time. Well, it has been over a year now and it is still happening. I have gone back to the doctor and still, no answers. There doesn't seem to be much research on women's hairloss and there never seems to be answer. So, the last time I was at the OB, my Doctor told me to go back on the pill. I have now been on Ortho-cyclen for 3 months and my skin is so broken out, my breast are so painful, and my hair is still shedding... i think worse! I have become obsessed with every hair that falls out. I just don't understand... It is obviously from some sort of hormonal imbalance because, like you, it started when i went back on the pill. My hair loss is not as extreme as yours (my body hair does not fall off), but I am so scared. I have seen 3 different docs, and not one of them has an answer. They are all female too. What the hell? I have started taking a women's multi vitamin, flaxseed hoping that something simple like this helps. I am sorry, but I don't have any answers for you. Just wanted to let you know I am in the same boat and hopefully one of us will find an answer someday before we end up bald. keep me posted on your progress and let me know if something starts to work :)

What do women do for birth control now? I'm fairly stumped. I can't use conventional methods such as the pill - since even dianette caused the greatest shed seen outside of a DIY store clearance - so what to do? I'm happy enough to use condoms - (my mother swears by the rhythm method but I remain sceptical) - but I want something else on top of that. A football team of deformed brats does not appeal. What does everyone else do? :?
