I know how important Nizoral is, but I'm wondering what other people use to supplement this shampoo on their off days. Nizoral helped with my itch a good amount, but I still have a little bit of it left probably due to dryness. Is there a popular shampoo/conditioner hairloss people typically get?

Doesnt matter much whatever floats your boat. I personally dont put much stock in nizoral making a big difference for most men but it does a have a few studies saying the active ingredient helps some.

Neutrogena T-Gel Greasy (2% Salicylic Acid and .75% Piroctone Olamine) You can find it on many UK pharmacy type sites...not sold in the US

The nioxin looked like a good quality shampoo but unfortunately that's not in my price range (maybe when i get out of college). I started using T-gel original formula too but I don't think that helped out my itch too much. Yesterday i tried aloe vera on my itchy parts and it relieved the itch very well. I definitely suggest it to people who have pretty bad itch. Only bad thing is that it kind of messes up your hair in the thinning parts (the aloe makes the hair stick together like its permanently wet) but its fine if you aren't going out for a while. Definitely more in my price range than emu oil which i hear works well too but is a little more pricey.

Right now i use Nioxin system 2 and Nizoral 2x a week.

However i have been getting scalp tingling itch, and it made me realize maybe one of the two is upsetting/irratating my scalp.

So now i have to make the decision.. is a scalp that doesnt tingle/itch that isn't cleaned by a DHT removing shampoo better than a scalp that does itch/tingle, but is cleaned by a DHT removing shampoo??

Revivogen, while it's a scam on topical version when claimed to block dht, the shampoo version is very good as a sebum cleaning shampoo, it's really cleaning your scalp well

The tingling sensation always accompanies massive shed for me, I'm doing all I can to get rid of it

i actually only use nizoral 3 times a week and on my off days i don't use any shampoo at all. i always keep my hair buzzed at a 1 to make it easier to rinse.

I only use Nizoral too. Can I ask how long it took to see results? I'm 21 and my hair has been shedding more than usual the last 2 months. I use it 2 times a week.....maybe I should change to 3 times a week?

I've tried quite a few different products but found nioxin is the only thing that "works" for me. By works I don't mean that it's growing me new hair or anything, but that it's the only shampoo/conditioner that has cut down scalp irritation/itchiness and left my hair feeling genuinely clean and healthy. Even nizoral tends to leave my hair feeling dry and irritated, I tried it on 3 or 4 separate occasions and have since given up.

The only products that apparently work that I haven't tried are tricomin and revivogen. Has anyone had experience with these? Are they worth trying?

B.S.

Nizoral studies:

1%:

Reduces shedding and makes hair thicker:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18498517

http://www.anagen.net/k9.htm

2%:

Almost as effective as 2% minoxidil:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9669136

(nizoral + Propecia more effective than Propecia alone):

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12227482

21 month study:

http://inhumanexperiment.blogspot.com/2009/03/2-nizoral-shampoo-increases-hair-growth.html

Scientists shaved mice repeatedly and gave them either ketoconazole or vehicle solution and the mice who received ketoconazole repeatedly demonstrated "a macroscopically significant stimulatory effect". In other words their hair grew like crazy.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15863844

Others:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14729013

Oral ketoconazole is such a potent anti-androgen its basically castration in a bottle:

http://www.eje-online.org/content/105/2/275.abstract

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2138647

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22490153

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1475939

It doesn't get absorbed enough from topical application to do any of that though:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3280211

and yet another early study on topical keto (det I can't find right now) showed that serum levels of ketoconazole were virtually undetectable even when they used large doses

I'm giving nizoral 1% a go now, I only tried the 2%. Maybe it was too harsh. This one has fancy DEEP CONDITIONING, so maybe it will alleviate the dry hair problem that I had with the 2%.

I was using 2% nizoral twice a week for about 12 months all I know is I shed like crazy once I started to notice my crown go earlier this year. My Crown was rock solid prior to starting nizoral. I didn't drop it at first thinking it couldn't be nizoral causing the loss as my dandruff went away.

I ended up droping nizoral and started a non big 3 treatment and my shedding is greatly reduced. Dandruff is under control from what I can tell as well.

My skin is sensitive so maybe 1% would have worked better for me, but I don't want to risk it.
