Hi everyone, been reading all the posts here - thanks for posting! I'm using Dr. Lee's 5% minoxidil w/o PG but it is evidently too strong as it causes scalp ache if I use about 1/4 ml straight and I need to dilute it. This formulation includes alcohol and glycerin. Someone here in another post recommended diluting 50% with 70% isoprpyl alcohol (sp?) and I'm wondering of over time that will be too drying and if a drop of emu oil could be added to the mix or if that will increase penetration of minoxidil????
I use a cotton swap and put only three swipes in middle of crown and that's about acceptable. Two swipes three times is evidently too much and causes me to have scalp ache. So it may be better if I dilute it.
Tried using the full 1 ml and had systemic effects and ongoing scalp ache including starting a herpes outbreak so in consultation with Dr. Lee was confirmed just to use enough to cover the thinning area.
Tried 2% with PG and that caused pimple/blisters. Tried azaelic acid and that was way too strong in 5% formulation from Dr. Lee. Have ordered 3% from Dr. Klein but don't have it yet. Of course, like many here have lost about 50% of my hair strands due to shedding and being a woman with 18-24 inch hair it's going to be a good long time - at least 18 months before I see good full ends - that's if everything regrows (and of course not until I'm on it and I told that the lost hair will/may grow back in weaker! - no input on length of hair that will grow to - as many on forums have said minoxidil only grows short hairs!!). And of course the majority of hairs I have lost have been the stronger thicker ones!!! Wish I had known all this before starting - you don't really get the full scoop on all negative effects of minoxidil until reading these forums. The product literature's description of 'some shedding' doesn't tell the real story for us that really get SHEDDING - nor gives a full picture of what to expect in long-term growth.
Any input on dilution is appreciated as well as if there are any women using minoxidil if it's grown back your longer hairs.
