There aren't many threads on this. Certainly not one dedicated to trying this. Basically it goes, that dropping birth control pills into a bottle of shampoo and then using it normally will give regrowth.

There are posts across several forums mentioning this, and some people swear by it, others call it a myth. Some people have tried it (usually women who claim they got thickening and faster growth) which isn't convincing at all, and others have said it doesn't work.

Not all birth control are the same, and not all people are the same. They never specify which birth control it is, and it is at this point a mess, no standard, everyone is all over the place on which birth control pills they use.

There's this particular thread on another forum, where it's rather somewhat convincing: https://www.longhaircareforum.com/threads/birth-control-grows-hair.446126/

The user mentioned that birth control pills are dropped in some kind of oil solution. Again, they didn't specify WHICH birth control pills, or how many.

The method of action is reportedly the Estrogen from the Birth Control being delivered to the scalp and acting as a topical. That's what it seems. Keep in mind that there are many kinds of Birth Control that take a different hormonal approach. Typically, there's combined contraceptives, which is usually an Estrogen, combined with a Progesterone. The Progesterone can have various purposes, depending on the type of pills. For example, there's Ethinyl Estradiol (Estrogen)/Levonorgestrel (Progesterone) pills. In this particular case, the Progesterone on this formulation is balancing out the effects of just taking pure Estrogen (to minimize side effects and all that). Then there's Antiandrogenic Progesterone, which is found in other formulations. There's high Androgen Index, and Low Androgen Index Birth Control. It has to do with the ratio. I've also read that Progesterone can be good for regrowth. Which type of progesterone is another question.

Here's some info on the types of Birth Control: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/topic/330166-good-bad-birth-control-pills-and-implants-for-acne/

Here's one specifically on this, only it mentions ORAL contraceptives: http://www.everydayhealth.com/hair-loss/oral-contraceptives-as-a-hair-loss-treatment.aspx

This one will give you another list with the doses if you want to adjust or play around with it:
http://www.fainamd.com/resources/Which+OCP+is+Best+Handout.pdf

You can use those as a guide.

Also, not every shampoo is the same. A few factors maybe to consider are: Did the shampoo contain Propylene Glycol? Did the shampoo contain an Alcohol which facilitated dissolution?

Here are links where they actually mention dissolving Ethinyl Estradiol into Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, an ingredient in shampoos:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2324966,
http://www.usp.org/sites/default/files/usp_pdf/EN/USPNF/ethinylEstradiol.pdf

Here's a standard:

1. Use 0.02 Ethinyl Estradiol, 0.1 mg Levonorgestrel pills. There are many brands and generics with this exact formulation.

2. Drop the entire pack of pills into a bottle of shampoo (There won't be any shampoo standard, as we should find the correct one that works the best as a vehicle)

3. Mix with something like Aloe Vera/Rosemary (This is starting to sound like one of those alternative treatments, but this may be what helps keep the pills in the bottle of shampoo without losing potency) It could be that you can use any food product very similar to brewing alcohol (Adding fruits for example to a brew, feeds the yeast with sugars)

4. Leave the shampoo with everything mixed for about a week (It could be that fermentation is taking place, similar to brewing)

5. Use it either every two days, every other day, or everyday (We should come up with a standard for this one. If you decide to adopt one of these, make sure to stick with it, so it is a consistent regimen.

6. Let's say we do this for about 3 weeks to a month, see how it goes.

It would be preferable if anyone trying this to not be on any regimen, so we can see what this can do alone.

Alternatively, if you are already on a regimen, please report, it would still be helpful if we can see if this could be enhanced by something like minoxidil, or be added to anyone's regimen anytime, see how that helps your current ongoing regimen.

Post your progress. If the standard doesn't seem to work, few things to consider: Type of shampoo, and maybe the formulation in the Birth Control doesn't suit either your hormonal profile or your DHT sensitivity/resistance. At this point feel free to look into the list of types of Birth Control and select another type of contraceptive that you think may exhibit success, or you can post in the thread. Would be great also if you have information of your hormone levels.

Do your research.

Good luck!

I've heard about it but afraid to try it as if the hormones are absorbed to the system I don't think it'd be alright
