I've never downloaded directly from them, But there kinda famous, like Pirate Illuminati.

Although I have downloaded torrents they've created.

I use utorrent, either isohunt or piratebay. Usually Iso though.

If your favourite torrent tracker doesn't have the file you are looking for, there is always google....

I used to use BitTorrent as my main source for downloading stuff.

My bandwidth is now 16mbit and I very rarely get that speed even when it's a high-seed torrent.

I now use Usenet which always gives max speed. Although I have a 40inch 1080p monitor, which means I feel silly if I don't get a blu-ray rip if available, and each movie is about 12gb! Which essentially means that even downloading at 1.3mb a second, it still takes me 2.5 hours. 5 years ago I had a 1mbit connection took me a few hours for a 700mb divx rip. Only thing that has changed now is the quality! Full high definition is incredible, I can watch something from 2 feet away and it looks crystal clear. But then I can also get a 700mb divx rip in about 10 minutes. Which is good for non-enthusiastic viewing (on a sofa 12 feet away with friends/family).

Of course, all my downloads are backups.

I do pay for my usenet server and newsreader. Usenet is actually older than the internet. Originally used by Universities for research, messages etc. Now mostly for multimedia goodies. All the downloads are divided into binary packets and still referred to as 'articles'. Not much different from a winrar archive. I use Giganews with SSL packets on their European server as it's closer.

I still check out torrent sites likes mininova, isohunt etc for interesting things added daily that I wouldn't have searched for otherwise...

ISPs throttle torrent speeds.

My ISP even goes as far as preventing me from connecting to torrent trackers at peak time.

I'm still on a very old tariff, there are much better deals out there but I don't want to be without internet connection for 15 days that is necessary to switch companies :(

any of you UK chaps fallen victim to the 3 strikes thing yet?

Nah, not heard of them using it. I got a letter from BT a few months ago, but I just ignored it and carried on as usual.

Don't forget to forward the ports on your router to maximize your downloads.

http://portforward.com/

Follow the easy steps.! & Utorrent is the best : http://www.utorrent.com/ way better than the new Azureus.

Fred

The thing is.... port forwarding is done through UPnp protocol, and most torrent clients know how to speak upnp. So, if the router allows hosts connected to it to change the port settings, then the torrent client should be able to do it without the need for another program.

At least this is how it used to work the last time I checked...
