Hey all,

Sorry this must have been covered many times in this section, but what blood tests do you recommend before trying out finasteride for the first time?

Is it called something along the lines of a "baseline serum hormone test"? My general practitioner didn't know of any blood-work that can be done before starting the drug, yet I know there is one that people typically do.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Vulfpeck,

It think these will do :

DHT (dihidrotestosterone) - the bastard that is causing our pain
Total testosterone - a marker of your testosterone bonded with SHBG/Albumine in our blood
Free testosterone - potentially available for work on our androgen receptors
SHBG - The substance on which all of this hormones travel with
Estradiol(E2) - aka estrogen
FH - pituitary hormone ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal_axis )
LH - also a pituitary hormone ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal_axis )
Prolactin - too much is bad for us as males ( counteracts dopamine )
Progesterone - this can be beneficial for us as males
PSA - this will be decreased after finasteride use ( a marker secreted by your prostate )
