Man the Oscars are a joke most of the time. While they do give awards to the actual best in a certain catagory most of time it is a who does the academy like the most vote. While all the people that are nominated should be there, which is one thing they get right most of the time, the winners quite often come down to who they think should win and not the person that gave the best performance. What I have always found funny is that how a movie like Lord of the Rings: Return of the King can win Best Picture of the Year and 10 other awards, but not one of the actors from the movie are nominated for their performance. I mean if the acting was nothing worthy of being nominated then how can the movie win best picture? Nothing against Sean Penn, but Bill Murray's should of won for "Lost in Translation." I saw both movies and while Sean Penn did a great job Bill Murray played that character perfectly and gave a much more memorable performance. The bias of Hollywood, though, chose Penn for personal reasons instead of what he should of been judged on which was his acting ability. Penn had the a couple things in his favor from the start, one being Clint Eastwood directed the movie and lobbied for Penn to win. The other being that Bill Murray was mostly a comedic actor and the academy does not shine to people who have spent most of their career making comedies. One other thing is that most of Hollywood makes a habit of letting their politcal views influence the way they vote, which is also why Tim Robbins won. The voters got what they wanted, Penn bashed the government and the true winner lost because he is mostly known for his comedy, man the academy is really doing a good job.
