hey guys, i just found this forum and it looks like a lot of u guys know what u are talking about. I have been noticing hairloss since i was about 15-16 years old and i went to the dermatologist and he told me it was some wierd hair condition that i can't remember the name of it was something like euphasia?? i'm not 100% sure, but my hairloss has not stopped and i would say that i am a Norwood 2 maybe slightly worse but not by much. I talked to my parents about it and my dad bought me Shen Min because he believes that Propecia is just a drug that is gonna hurt me but it seems like Shen Min is not a good at all from what i've read on here. So my question is what should i do? This is quite disheartening because i am so young and this is happening, but i want to stop it before it gets worse and maybe hopefully grow back some of my lost hair. thanks guys

Hey, I'm not sure where your dad gets his info, but during the Propecia trials, only 2% of users reported side effects, and those apparently disappeared after discontinuation of use.

I can't think of what the doctor's initial diagnosis was, and I can't speak for Shen Min because honestly I've never heard of it, but most people on these boards will recommend three different treatments (commonly referred to as the "big 3"):

-Finasteride (Propecia)
-Minoxidil (Rogaine)
-Nizoral shampoo

There have been studies for all three indicating they can benefit those suffering from androgenetic alopecia. In addition, some people believe copper peptides can have a positive effect on hair. Some examples of copper peptides formulas are Tricomin Therapy Spray, and Folligen.

So those are your best bets. BTW I'm 22 and have been losing hair since I was about 17 or 18, so I understand what you're going through; it sucks, and it's not fair.

Brent20,

You're 20yrs old now dude, time to make your -own- decisions. Daddy is entitled to his opinion but it is up to -you- to make an informed and educated choice.

I recommend oral Finasteride and Nizoral 1% shampoo . See where you are after a year and check back in :)

im 20 too, yeh its rubbish becasue were stilkl young, but doing something about it is a big postive step in the right direction. Im on minoxidil and nizoral, for about a month now, and it seems to be working :D
theres no hard in trying, go with whats tested and see what happens, its better than doing nothing

thanks for the replies so far guys i'm gonna go get some nizoral next time i go out and i'm gonna schedule a dermo appointment to see if i can get some propecia. Is this all i will need to stop it and grow some new hair back? Will the propecia and nizoral be enough? And how often should i use the nizoral? thanks guys

Nobody can say for sure whether it will be enough. For some guys, it's enough even for some regrowth. For me, it hasn't stopped hair loss as I still continue to thin.

However, they are basically the only proven treatments, so there isn't a whole lot of choice in the matter if you want to stop hair loss via the proven route.

As for nizoral, it's recommended to only use it about 3 times a week. Also, you don't need a derm to perscribe Propecia, as I originally got a script from my G.P.
