Hello everyone. I am 23 years old and I began losing my hair approximately a year and half ago. Unfortunately male pattern baldness runs in my family. My father began losing his hair when he was in his early 20's and had a slick head by the time he was 30.

I have been on "the big 3" for about 7 months now. I haven't noticed a lot of regrowth but I have been able to retain the hair that I do have. I am also thinking of adding Tricomin or Folligen.

My regime is as follows:

- minoxidil once a day before bed
- 1.25mg Proscar before bed
- Nizoral once every 3 days
- Johsons baby shampoo and Nioxin Scalp Therapy conditioner on the inbetween

This may sound naive but I am hoping that this regime will allow me to keep as much hair as possible until HM becomes available. It's really hard for me to imagine myself with the "horseshoe" look my father sports.

Do you guys think an SOD like Tricomin or Folligen would be a good addition to my regimine?

Thanks for reading.

It couldn't hurt.

I'd recommend using minoxidil twice a day, 5% both applications if u can tolerate it.

Also a multivitamin and omega-3 fish oils too, if you arne't taking them.

I didn't see alot of regrowth from propecia until 1.5 years, but i wasn't using anything else then.

If you ask me, i think you'd be a good candidate for hair transplants. Just a small amount of FUEs will fill in that area in the middle of your head. Looks like very simple work for any half-way decent hair transplant doctor. Hopefully your treatments will fill in the crown and the hairline by the temples and you will have nice looking hair, albeit somewhat recessed.

Did all this hair loss happen within one and a half year? I don´t know much about SOD, but if it really happened that fast, you have a very aggressive type of MBP. Maybe you should think about a stronger DHT Blocker such as Dutasteride as addition to your regimen. What are your personal impressions about the results with the Big 3 after seven months? Did you notice less shedding or something? I am also hoping and praying for HM to be as soon as possible saving me from a horsehoe......

Good Luck for you!

If that much hairloss in 1 1/2 years is "very aggressive male pattern baldness" then I don't know what you'd call my crazy shedding in 8 months. I have my hair long so I don't really know how I compare to him but I'd say similar. I'll put up pictures once I get my hands on my digital camera.

Thanks for the replies.

I would like to use minoxidil twice a day but it just irritates my skin, leaves my hair greasy and my scalp shiney all day. After I use up the rest of the Target brand minoxidil I have, I will probably try Dr. Lee's minoxidil since people say it dries faster and doesn't leave as much of a residue on the scalp.

It's been a year and a half since I first noticed my hair thining on the crown and in front. I noticed my temples were receding in highschool but I didn't really think much of it. I would agree that my male pattern baldness is pretty agressive.

Please tell me if I'm wrong but from reading the information on this website I came to the conclusion that I would be a poor candidate for a hair transplant since my male pattern baldness is aggressive. If I were to get FUEs put in the middle of my head wouldn't that look really bad when I eventually lose the rest of my hair? Again I could be wrong about this.

So far the Big 3 has worked well for me. I deffinately noticed the sexual side effects from the finasteride initially but they went away after about 6 weeks. As far as shedding goes I haven't experienced any massive sheds like some on this site have. Basically I've been able to maintain what I had 7 months ago. I wish I would have started sooner but I'm very glad I didn't wait any longer.

I think AC revitalizing spray is twice the same active ingredients as Tricomin at half the price, with other stuff added that might have a small effect. One bottle is cheaper that a bottle of folligen, in dollars.

the nioxin is a scam. The botanicals in it will smell good but that is it.

Nioxin Scalp Therapy System 2 contains: Water (Aqua), Stearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Bromide, Cetyl Alcohol, Decethyldimonium Chloride, Dimethicone, Cetrimonium Chloride, Polquaternium-11, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, Panthenol, Amodimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Polysorbate-60, Polysorbate-80, Propylene Glycol, Camellia Sinensis, Cucurbita Pepo, Humulus Lupulus, Mentha Piperita, Rosmarinus Officinalis, Serenoa Serrulata, Urtica Dioica, Visnaga Vera, Hexapeptide-11, Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate Lysate, Betaine, Hexylene Glycol, Glycoproteins, Cystine Bis-PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Phenoxyethanol, Phospholipids, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Ethoxydiglycool, Coenzyme A, Coenzyme B5, Coenzyme B6, Coenzyme B12, Coenzyme Biotin, Coenzyme Folate, Coenzyme Nicotinate, Coenzyme Q6-10, Coenzyme R, Coenzyme Thiamine, Melanin, Superoxide Dismutase, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, propylparaben, Green 5, Yellow 6.

The Superoxide Dismutase is the only good thing in it, but is at the end of the ingredients. Use it till it is gone, but don't buy anymore.

Try dutasteride at http://www.inhousepharmacy.com. Get the dutas. It will arrive in a week. Then add AC revitalizing spray to your regimen. I don't know if it is better or worse than folligen, but I will alternate it with folligen. Folligen probably should be diluted 50%.

Cool, thanks! I know Target carries some of the American Crew products but I don't think I have seen the Revitalizing spray there. Is there a good place you have found to order it online? I found some on Ebay, but I'm a little reluctant to order something like that from Ebay. I think I will probably apply it in the morning and then before minoxidil at night.

Yeah, I agree that the Nioxin stuff is a scam. My mother had a bunch of it left over from when she lost hair due to a diet she went on. I do think it helps improve the condition of my scalp though and helps to stop the iching caused by minoxidil. Other than that you are right, it is worthless.

I think I read in another one of your posts that it won't do harm to the liver since different enzymes break down dutas than do finasteride. Is that correct? Do you suggest alternating dutas and finasteride throughout the week?

Thanks for the suggestions. Your posts are very helpful.

I just ordered some Dutas and AC spray today. Hopefully they will both be here in a week or so. My plan is to take the Dutas MWF and see how that goes.

Is there any need to continue taking finasteride for a couple weeks while the Dutas begins to take effect or will I be fine if I quit finasteride the day I start Dutas?
