I've been waiting for my finasteride for a bit now.
Went out doing usual errands, not expecting it to come for a few more days.
When I came home I got an earful from my sister who had went to check the mailbox and found it today. Apparently she had taken her time to research what the drug can do off websites like WebMD etc google searches yada yada. Gynecomastia, hormonal changes. Nothing we don't already know about. She knows nothing about the fact that it only affects a small subset of people. She knows nothing about the hours of research I've put into finally deciding to get some. Hell, ive been losing my hair for 3 years now reluctant to even try it opting instead for less effective things, yet still losing.
Here's where it gets interesting, and affirms everything that we've talked about on this site. Keep in mind, she's no expert in anything hair loss, or a doctor. Just someone who did a quick google search:
Her: Do you know all these side effects that can be caused from messing with your hormones?
Me: It has a strong safety profile, it's been tested and there's a very minuscule chance anything could happen. If it does, you stop and it goes away.
Her: I can't believe you're considering this.
Me: Yeah? what am I supposed to do? be bald in my 20's? You do realize most drugs have side effects Take Simvastatin for example (something my mom is taking)
Her: Yeah but cholesterol is a serious disease. This is just your vanity. It's just hair.
It's...Just...Hair
Yep, exactly what I've seen discussed here so many times. Norwood-0's gonna Norwood-0 on, be it female or males, Positional good theory in effect. She's got thick long hair...They know nothing about what psychological toll hair loss has on us. Especially us younger folks, because they don't experience it. I know she was just looking out for me and meant well...But here's the funny part, she tells me this But she would never consider dating or marrying a bald/balding man. Her friends and her included reject men based on their appearances everyday. "he's nice...but he's balding". Yes, a subset of those men are bald.
Yeah, I guess we're all just being vain, who needs hair anyways. The hypocrisy of Norwood-0s is baffling sometimes.
