I've been waiting for my finasteride for a bit now.

Went out doing usual errands, not expecting it to come for a few more days.

When I came home I got an earful from my sister who had went to check the mailbox and found it today. Apparently she had taken her time to research what the drug can do off websites like WebMD etc google searches yada yada. Gynecomastia, hormonal changes. Nothing we don't already know about. She knows nothing about the fact that it only affects a small subset of people. She knows nothing about the hours of research I've put into finally deciding to get some. Hell, ive been losing my hair for 3 years now reluctant to even try it opting instead for less effective things, yet still losing.

Here's where it gets interesting, and affirms everything that we've talked about on this site. Keep in mind, she's no expert in anything hair loss, or a doctor. Just someone who did a quick google search:

Her: Do you know all these side effects that can be caused from messing with your hormones?
Me: It has a strong safety profile, it's been tested and there's a very minuscule chance anything could happen. If it does, you stop and it goes away.
Her: I can't believe you're considering this.
Me: Yeah? what am I supposed to do? be bald in my 20's? You do realize most drugs have side effects Take Simvastatin for example (something my mom is taking)
Her: Yeah but cholesterol is a serious disease. This is just your vanity. It's just hair.

It's...Just...Hair

Yep, exactly what I've seen discussed here so many times. Norwood-0's gonna Norwood-0 on, be it female or males, Positional good theory in effect. She's got thick long hair...They know nothing about what psychological toll hair loss has on us. Especially us younger folks, because they don't experience it. I know she was just looking out for me and meant well...But here's the funny part, she tells me this But she would never consider dating or marrying a bald/balding man. Her friends and her included reject men based on their appearances everyday. "he's nice...but he's balding". Yes, a subset of those men are bald.

Yeah, I guess we're all just being vain, who needs hair anyways. The hypocrisy of Norwood-0s is baffling sometimes.

If she uses make up her whole argument is invalid.
Also I bet her argument would be different if she was losing her hair

My mom said the same thing to me when I started taking it, and that no one cares about hair etc etc... It pissed me off because when I shaved my head when I was like 14 or something she said I looked horrible and need to grow my hair back. ****ing hypocrite.

My mom saw my head after derma rolling yesterday and started calling me crazy.
I asked her how her botox treatments are going and that was the end of it

Lol nice. They'll go to extreme lengths to minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Did they know Botox is made from a neurotoxin and literaelly paralyzes muscles? Bet she didn't know that.

Probably not haha, Botulism is one of the most deadly neurotoxins too.
Baffles me that they inject it into people.
Its even used to treat excessive sweating and urinary incontinence

Tbh i agree with her on the propecia
..but if she actually says about not dating a balding man around you then she's not too bright.

Few people around me thought I was serious about having a hair transplant.

4500€ just for hair? Really?! You have too much money! Why not buy a nice car instead? If you're worried about girls, they'll be more impressed by a car than by hair!"

And the comments when I was suffering from major depression and anxiety, so messed up I had to call a mental health clinic. 5 months in psychiatry in total, and what do the fullheads say?

"Man, come on, you remember when you were in psychiatry over your hair loss? That was just pretending, right? You can say it now!"

Oh yes, you got me! I was just pretending, I actually liked the taste of Lexapro, that was the reason! Ignorance and stupidity know no limits.

Hair loss does cause anxiety, and that's real.

I think psychiatry medication is bull****. No different then taking street drugs to feel good about oneself for something that you will have to own up to, and deal with sooner or later.

Cure = hair

obviously, its not happening to her.. and i can GUARANTEE you if your sister has any empathy, once you are a nw4+ she will tell you that you should do something about your hair. This is the case with alot of people i know.. they think its nothing until it actually happens... we get **** for being proactive and trying to stop it... as if we want to risk the side effects and other disadvantages that comes with taking these type of drugs.

My friend recently got off finasteride just because he thinks hes too far gone.. probably nw4/5... his mom gives him **** for not doing anything... and for the past week hes been showing up with a different hat and it really bothers me cause it looks ridiculous.. at least embrace it if you're gonna give up on meds, showing up everywhere with a hat is quite annoying after a while.

You're right, I know some people who would have already jumped off a bridge if they didn't smoke marijuana regularly for example.

is this a serious statement?.. ive been a chronic smoker for 9+ years and was able to quit FINE the 2 times i did.. the only thing you will suffer from is 1 or 2 nights of ****ty sleep.. marijuana does cause a dependancy but the extent of a dependancy it causes is nothing close to that of "jumping off a bridge"

They would have jumped off a bridge because they certainly wouldn't be able to deal with their crappy lives. That's what I meant.

And it's the same people who would have criticized me for taking psychiatric medication, without even seeing the obvious irony.

Did the meds make you any worse? I was given a mood stablizer around 13/14 and I went off the walls, nearing full blown psycho pathic sadist.

Considering I become so much more analytical and to myself when I'm high doesn't really make sense how Marijuana would help a depressed person IMO but to each their own I guess

I remember reading somewhere that most anti-depressants are basically as good as a placebo, talk about ridiculous. I'd love to see the research that goes into most of these drugs, probably bugger all. Funding and all that, can't afford it.

Essentially what you're taking is pharmaceutical grade amphetamines to boost your dopamine output to make you feel better about yourself. How is that any different then purchasing amphetamines of the street such as meth to feel great. very similar in structure, all though a lower drug output. Aside from that, the only difference is these drugs are prescribe by professionals, and are medical grade. Surely they must be safe, and beneficial

All these yipees think they need to pop these drugs like skittles to feel good about themselves.

Perhaps my mental fortitude isn't on the same level as other's, but I can assure you not being able to accept yourself doesn't require drugs.

I rely wish people could think outside the box about what they are doing for themselves rather then leaving their judgment in the hands of a 'professional'

go join a gym, communicate, and talk to people. these are ways of naturally boosting your dopamine, and feeling more open minded, and better about yourself.

Make something of yourselves, and you wouldn't be so 'depressed'.

I was poor, Skinny, bullied, and balding, but guess what I MADE SOMETHING OF MYSELF. I developed an amazing physique, I earned a career in the trades, Fixed my hairloss, and FEEEL great about MYSELF NOW. I laugh at my former self, and the people who put me down because now I'm laughing at them.

Perhaps I could of taken drugs to mask a situation that needed to be faced, but I didn't because that will get you now where. Just a pill poppin druggie with hope, and a dream

Yeah just masks stuff for a while but usually makes it worse, if you have under lying problems or anxiety. I think in studies it helps for people who were new to smoking. If your a depressed burn out usually smoking doesnt make anything better. Might make you forget for a little but doesnt alter you feelings or thought process. Especially with hairloss made me think it was so much worse than it was. But I was on a **** ton of other street drugs also.

That's what I was thinking!! Surely this stuff came in a mail bag/box.
This dude should start going through his sisters personal stuff and then make fun of her when she gets home.

Or maybe he could shave part of her head whilst she is in a deep sleep.
When she wakes up screaming he could say to her "Its' only hair!!"
