Can avodart stop working?

Can avodart stop being effective over time? If so, how many years is it supposed to be effective for?

I first took avodart in 03 and it cleared my skin up and stopped my hairloss, it was great i just stopped worrying about it, i couldnt have asked for me.

After 6 months on avodart i switched to the generic dutas and i took it for just over three years. I decided i wasnt gettting the results i was getting with avodart, my hair and skin both looked crap and some hairs as well as my leg hair was brittle and stiff and when i doubled the dose i got really sick, so i switched back to genuine avodart 8 weeks ago.

Since then ive shed heavily, my hair is really thin and i hate it, my leg hairs and some hair on my head which were brittle have softened back up though. I never shed when i took avodart in 03 and it stopped me losing hair within a few weeks, i cant for the life of me think of why this is happening, its freaking me out im worrying that avodart is not going to work for me this time round which is so dissapointing as avodart was the wonder drug for me. Ive added minoxidil to the mix but im not thinking positively about the whole thing.

Has anyone else experienced this or know why it could be happening?Thanks

they don't know becuase they never did a long-term study on it like they did for propecia. there isn't a certain number of years that propecia is good for either. it's not like oh i got on it when i was 22 so i have till i'm 27 before it stops being effective. what happens is that your genes overpower the medication. the medication is the same effectiveness 5 years from now as it is now- it's just that your hair loss is too severe for it to stop anymore so it just slows it down and you get that thinning.

people assume, probably rightly, that avodart will let you keep your hair for a few years longer than propecia would. we're just buying time till hair multiplication comes out.
