Can balding hair be sometimes better than fully bald?

My family say I look better with my severe diffusing thinning receeding hair than fully shaved head. One of my family member said, " I look like I have disease with shaved head." it surprised me to hear that comment from mfamily member. All of them discourage me to stop shaving head.

On some I think it's better to leave some hair despite the balding, the slick look can be too unnatural and "harsh"-looking on some people imo.
