You will lose some gains after a while, unfortunately that's just the way it is with minoxidil as detailed on this page:

Thats not true. The study shows results with only minoxidil.
But with the addtion of finasteride you can mantein your gains for several years if your male pattern baldness is not agressive

I just don't understand how we can say, on one hand, that we really have no clue how exactly minoxidil works, aside from opening potassium channels, and, on the other hand, say it does nothing to the balding process. Obviously it's not assumed to hit DHT like finasteride or dutasteride, but the stuff can grow hair on relatively bald areas for some people, so to say it does nothing for the balding process itself seems somewhat contradicting. I'm more comfortable saying it works sometimes, really well for some, not so well for others, and leaving it at that. Seems to be much more factually viable than making those two contradicting claims previously mentioned.

It's not contradictory at all, for example I gained hair on my temples yet I'm still losing hair on my crown.

So you gained hair (counterpoint to losing hair), but minoxidil does nothing, in the literal sense of the word, for the balding process? I'm really just nitpicking, but the point I'm trying to assert is that it obviously does something, we just don't know what. Usually it's openly admitted that we don't know exactly what it does; but at the same it's said that it does nothing for the balding process. If by this we mean it doesn't counter DHT, I guess that's right. But I've read a lot of people who've had excellent luck with gaining and maintaining just by using minoxidil for some years. If minoxidil can help stall the balding process, it does something for it, we just don't know what.

Really, I just have a problem with the two claims being made right next to each other. But I'm just being a***.
