Can finasteride restore hair in thinning areas?

I don't have any truly bald spots, but lots of areas on my scalp have become thin/fine in the last year. Can proscar restore these hairs to their original size/density? I know it doesn't work where skin is bald, but I can still feel small fine hair in my thin spots.

if you have male pattern baldness Finasteride is pretty much the only thing that will stop it progressing, and may thicken up some hair, but don't count on it.

So it probably won't thicken up thinning areas then? Will minoxidil make a big difference in that regard then?

You should use finasteride with minoxidil. One of my friend is a diffuse thinner like you and his baldness became non visible five month after using only minoxidil (minoxidil can do miracle on some people.). You should use both finasteride and minoxidil because finasteride can stop hairloss while minoxidil only stimulate growth.
