Can Rogaine worsen hairloss?

Hey guys,
I was on a propecia regimen for about a year and I saw absolutely no results so I am attempting to go on rogaine. I am losing hair in my hairline and just recently developing a thinning bald spot at the top of my head (maybe 6 months). The only reason I hadn't started on rogaine was because my dermatologist told me that rogaine may worsen hair loss in some people, and I'd rather remain like this and not make it worse. However I have not been able to find any claims supporting my dermatologist's opinion on the internet via a google search.

What do you guys think of this?

Propecia did not do anything for me for 3 years, so I dropped it. But minoxidil still workd for me after years of using it. You can try for 4-6 months to see is Rogaine is for you, if not, you can drop it, then your hair will go back to the base line before using Rogaine. A lot of people get result from Rogaine. Of course everyone is a bit different.

No, it can't.

The only thing he might've been referring to is the increased shedding that some get in their first few weeks of losing it. But people who get that shedding also tend to get the best results in the end. He might also have been referring to the fact that stopping rogaine can cause an increase in shedding, but even then you're only losing what you would have had you never started rogaine. So either way you're not worse off.

How aggressive is your hairloss, and since how many years are you using minoxidil?
I'm thinking about minoxidil only regime, and I wonder for how many years would it work?

How can people say that it can't make things worse when the process by which it does work in some people is not even understood??

I've been experimenting with it - putting more on the left side and less on the right side - I now have much less hair on the left side.

My hairloss was not very , very aggressive. I have managed to keep most of my hair for over ten years till I changed to DNC. It was good at the beginning till it changed its formular, then my hair went downhill. So I dropped both DNC and DNC-L and went back to 5% Rogaine. after 3 months back to Rogaine my hairloss has been stablized. Since 26/6 I use 15% minoxidil from MOPC Lab with AA, and mixed it with 5% Rogaine 1:1 to make it 10% minoxidil. My hairloss has improved a bit, but unfortunately MOPC does not make 15% minoxidil any more, and I have to look for other suppliers for that.
Everyone is a bit different, for me minoxidil has surely kept my hair for over 10 years. I would suggest you to try it out yourself. Currently I am using 10% minoxidil, Emu oil and folligen since 26/6, it is good for me, I am thinking to add castor oil in the future to see how it works.

IMO, yes it can worsen hairloss. I've stopped using it for this very reason. Had been using it since the start of the year but i got a shed on my temples and hairline, although that may not have been shedding from minoxidil, it may have just been natural hairloss. However, my hair never improved.

Like someone said, the exact mechanism for minoxidil isn't know. The suggestion is it that it opens up blood vessels, and so as a few of us have said on here, surely that could just open up your follicles to more DHT.

It's good to read that others are having long term success with just minoxidil, as the studies say otherwise. There is too much negativity towards it. Yes some guys will find that it doesn't work for them but then isn't this is also true for finasteride.

If I were you, I would stop Rogaine. I think you have tried long enough to find out that Rogaine is not working for you, regardless if Rogaine made it worse or not.

Also, each individual is different, the findings in the clinical study can't be complete. Something that is not on the label does not mean that it will not happen. Human body is such a complex system, let alone everyone carries so many gene variants that are different from one to another person. The gene variants could utimately affect the rate of metabolizing a particular chemical, leading to different responses to a drug. Bottom line is that you cannot rationize everything; trust what you have seen on yourself.

I've been using 5% minoxidil for about 9 months, but my hair seems to thin faster. Why idoes it work for everybody and I don't seem to have any improvements with it, all I see is more tiny miniaturized hairs.
Second question, can women take propecia, finastride or any other treatments you guys use? All I'm using is bcp , and right now instead of putting the crap in my body , I'd like to throw them out of the window.

Yes. I used it on my temples. I was a Norwood 1. Now one temple is Norwood 2.5. I used 5% foam for 7-8 months. I just shed. Minimal regrowth. It's been 6 months since I quit entirely. My temples are ruined. I still hold hope as there is stubble, but I think they are just peach fuzz hairs.

I've been usnig 5% Rogaine liquid for 14 months. I use it only once a day, at night, at double the recommended dose. I don't take any other medications. It's definitely helped, on both the crown and in the front.

Had same experience until I added duta and later ru + anti oxidants in the regimen. The core issue is testosterone and dht. Minoxidil doesn't tackle that angle. At best it increases blood flow so more dht is delivered to the hair follicle. More androgens = faster hairloss.

Yes it can although it does depend on how one reacts. I suspect I'm allergic to something it in or something. It certainly gets a lot of people good results.
