was online this morning trying to distract myself watching you tube. Im not going to give the full details but in the comments a guy made one that disagreed with the video. he had a picture of himself ( visible receding hairline). here are some of the comments following...

"I must say that receding hairline is quite bad, to say the least of course."

"im sure you get alot of girls seeing that you have a receding hairline".

"____looks a hell of a lot better then you"

keep in mind this guy wasn't even insulting the appearance of the person in the video and most people attacking him had no profile picture. Now I know the internet brings out the worst of people but come on... this is just a total slap in the face.

just wanted to share this to rant , I guess. can't even distract myself on the internet without dealing with it.

When people can't argue any other way they sometimes resort to trying to insult.

In a heated argument with a friend of a friend not to long ago he came out with "what would you know anyway baldy?".

I knew at this point that I had essentially won the argument and he was just pissed off. Still I felt terrible, I didn't think my balding was that noticeable.

One of my friends said "leave it out" to defend me but I kind of wish he didn't as it only drew further attention to it. Definitely saw some of the girls checking out my hair, still though at least they didn't know beforehand I suppose.

Got that line many times when I argued with my friends and they got pissed off.

Usually it's: "at least I have hair!"

You should just respond that at least you're 6'3".

It's hard but you just gotta forgive people sometimes for they no not what they say. Unfortunately for men they really don't mature till like 35 so it's a long wait if you're dealing with this stuff in the 20's. But life will find a way to humble them.

When I was 19ish and working as a bus boy one of the waiters asked me to pull my hair back (I have a natural U shaped hairline from birth so it looks naturally receded even though back then it wasn't) - he said oh you're still doing ok. Keep in mind at this time he had luxurious gel slicked back Robert DeNiro like hair.

Fast forward 18 years later, I hadn't seen him since the restaurant days, he moved back to town after his divorce - receded hairline, and an obvious balding crown. With a protruding stomach I might add. How is that for poetic justice! Where I still have my crown, and my hairline for age 40 would be considered mature now, rather than in the receded category.

I don't dislike him and he had a witty sense of humor about him, but still the irony's of life eh - that's just how long it takes sometimes.

PS - he was also a philosophy major who would take shots at my faith back then, gotta wonder.

I freely admit I used to make bald jokes. People don't understand the impact of hair loss until it happens to them. Those guys talking sh*t about the dude's hairlines can't fathom the mental destruction it's taken upon him.

Back when I was a young fullhead, the notion that "chicks dig bald guys" was hammered into my head. I thought that since "chicks dig bald guys", that made it ok to make fun of a bald guys, just like it's ok to make fun of positive features like big muscles or tall height. It took me going bald myself to realize how bullshit the statement "chicks dig bald guys" really is. The reality is that women actively despise bald men, and a NW7 hairline negates any sexual attractiveness that a man otherwise would have had. Fullheads might not realize it, but making fun of a bald guy is like making fun of a midget or a burn victim.

Just today on facebook I saw some of my friends having like a playful argument sort of thing, and the first response one had to the other was a comment about the dude's high hairline

f*** THAT

holy f*** I hope finasteride + transplant will save me from this kind of treatment for years to come

I think most people have. People have a natural dislike of baldness, combine that with media conditioning from a young age (all the TV creepos, villains, janitors being bald etc.) and you start doing it reflexively. For years now 'bald' has been shorthand for loser. And pretty much everyone uses it as such - honestly, some of the nicest, sweetest girls I've met have still wrinkled their noses up at a bald scalp and commented cattily on young guys' hair loss. It's just so deeply entrenched.

true. entrenched is a good way to put it. it's ignorance more than malice. people might have an easier time empathizing if the psychological effects of hair loss were ok to talk about. maybe if a girl could really imagine herself going bald, and truly put herself in those shoes and understand the effects of it, they might not be as disgusted about something people have no choice over.

That doesn't work because "at least it's normal on guys". I hate that argument, it just invalidates our feelings. Hair loss still f*cks you up as a male.

It's a harsh reality that they can be mother Teresa and still look at baldness like a disgusting act against God.

I mean this is true of any issue in life. What if you're starving in africa? Guess what you see on shows? People with plenty of food. What if you have some kind of disease? You go out and see healthy people walking everywhere. What if you have some kind of mental disability? Everyone else is working and able to get on just fine.

Etc etch. This just sounds like a victim complex
