First time poster.

I am a middle aged man that has hair loss for quite some time. I'm not sure how to describe it, other than bald on top and thinning receeding everywhere else.

I went to my doctor about it around three years ago and he put me on Proscar. I used it for a little over two years and everything remained very stable.

Now, here is the odd part.

I had been reading that avodart is better for regrowing hair, so my doctor put me on that about nine months or so ago. The weird thing is...I seem to be losing more hair, since taking the medicine than I did with proscar. I know,,,doesn't make any sense.

The back of my hair is remaining the same, but the front of my hair is really starting to get thin....more so than it has ever been.

Anyhow, I am going to see my doctor this week, and do any of you have any advice as to how I should address this with him? Should I go back to proscar??? I feel almost certain that avodart can't cause hair loss, but I can't explain why things are getting worse.

Thanks for your help and it is great having the information that comes from a site like this!

Perhaps your hairline is sensitive to testosterone and Avodart has increased testosterone levels from where they were at when your were on Proscar. There is a Dr. Rittmaster study which showed Avodart caused an increase in testosterone higher than what finasteride caused.
