Chest PAIN from minoxidil

Ok, I've had great success with my hairloss regimine over the years which includes 5% Rogaine foam, 1mg finasteride and Nizoral shampoo. I recently started having chest pains after applying another brand of minoxidil %5 foam..stopped altogether with the foam a few days ago..the pain is gradually diminishing. Went to a doctor and told him I was on minoxidil foam (showed him the PI leaflet that comes in the box)...he read it, listened to my heart and lungs, checked pulse and blood pressure and decided its NOT the minoxidil and did not think it was necessary to perform an EKG on my heart or to stop the minoxidil treatment. He thinks its stress due to graduate school, other problems, etc.

To anyone who has experienced chest pain while on a 5% Minoxidil foam,..how quickly does it subside when you stop the treatment? I'm hoping to try again in a few days and see if this %5 Minoxidil foam (Target's Up & Up brand) causes pain again. Can switching brands of minoxidil foam sometimes cause chest pain? Hopefully its just stress and not due to my minoxidil..

I recently went back on 15% minoxidil (only suit it evenings) and also felt some chest pain every couple of days for a week or so. This started about 2 weeks in with usage.
its been almost a week now since I last felt it.

I meant to reply to this thread ealier. I acutally determined my chest pain was from eating tuna fillets and tuna steaks. Stopped eating tuna, went back on min %5, no further symptoms and life is good!

you'd be surprised at how many of the reported side effects from Propecia, Minoxidil and many other hairloss treatments were actually caused by tuna fillets. I hear this story time and time again on here

Yeah I'm never touching that crap again. I thought I was having a heart attack. It never happens when I eat canned tuna, just the fillets.

Side effects from Minoxidil and Finasteride

I made the simple mistake of using too much minoxidil and had pretty terrible chest pains. Its easy for this to happen because of the psychologicaly behind it. You think the more you apply, the better it will work. I found this is not the case and (on top of that) you WILL experience bad side effects. What I learned was that, as long as you dampen the scalp, it will work. If you use more that about half the size of a money roll of nickels, you will experience pretty horrible chest pains within an hour of application and it will last for several hours. I also felt a degree of anxiety. I does go away after about 4 hours but it's a terrible feeling. If you use the right amount, you will have no side effects and you will start to regrow hair after your first shed somewhere between week 1 and 2 of use. Just DO NOT use more that the amount specified in the directions. If you do, it's ok. Don't panic. It goes away after a few hours but it does not make your hair grow back faster.

The only side effects I've found from Finasteride is that morning wood is a thing of the past. If I'm in a situation where I need my "tool" to work, it works fine. But no more randomly occurring pop ups. This really isn't a bad thing though, actually it's kind of a benefit. It's nice to wake up in the morning and not have a coat hanger in my shorts to be honest.

I had minor chest pain when I first started way back, like 3 years ago. Usually as a result of 2x a day applications and introducing a new agent into the body. It subsided a week later when I dropped down to 1x. Back on 2x a day now, no problems.

I buzzed my hair down to a #1 and didn't pay attention to the half capful foam application instructions, applied way too much, and experienced pretty terrible chest pains for several days afterward. Researching the pains is actually what brought me to this forum (though I've browsed off and on throughout the years).

I'm close to week two now and being more careful about the amount I apply, I am only getting general chest discomfort now and again. I'm going to stick with it, at least until I can see whether the Propecia which I've been on for over 10 years is causing the side effects I'm hoping to change (depression, brain fog, lowered penile sensation, sex drive, etc.).
