Coming off Finasteride - hair worse than it would of been?

Hi,

I'm just starting out on finasteride for the first time, my main concern right now is that I follow my uncle (I'm like a mini version of him in a lot of ways) for my hair and not my dad (who was bald when he was 18... I'm now 23).

When my uncle was my age he lost a lot of hair and got stick from his friends, but now he's 40 and has a similar amount of hair to me.

Let's say for example I do follow him, and won't lose any more hair... if I take Procepia for 5 years (forexample...) is there a chance I'll end up losing more hair when I stop than I would lose if I never started? Even a small chance? Or isn't that the way it works?

Thanks

Impossible to say with exact numbers, but to be honest I really cant think that you would be worse off.

If you take finasteride, don't have any sides, finasteride is probably the most effective thing you can do. If you have enlarged prostate problems in your family, its even good for that. Add a keto shampoo(Nizoral/fungural) or a P-O shampoo(Body shop ginger antidandruff) combined with a good conditioner like nano or tea tree you help your help even more. Adding Prox-n could help even more against fibrosis.

Bottom line, if finasteride works for you with no sides, don't stop. If you quit using it(and don't start another antiandrogen) you will probably loose what you have kept. Worst case scenario is that you loose a tiny bit more because of the way finasteride works on AR, but I really don't think it is a big difference, if any at all.

With the research going on now, in 5 years something really good is most likely on the horizon, if not in phase 3 or available.

Apparently the answer is NO. If you stop finasteride within 12 months you hair will return to how it WOULD have been

Now, im sure alot of people stopped and then thought they were worse of, but truly there is no way to tell if it was worse than your original position or not. However id be willing to bet these people just couldnt believe how bad their position would have been if they hadn't taken finasteride at all.

So no.

blize, I thought you said finasteride wasn't worth the risk when you posted that link. What made you change your mind?
