Hi guys,
I started taking finasteride around 1 month ago and I am just a bit confused at how long it stays in your system for. Obviously the half life is around 6 hours meaning its full life before it is metabolised is roughly 12 hours give or take but does this then mean that I am unprotected for 12 hours after this has occured, would it be better to split the dosage every 12 hours or take 2mg a day 1 every 12 hours?!I have read that it accumulates in your system but how long does it keep up continued effectiveness before your hairs start to be attacked again. Also, how long does it take for the medication to be completely out your system do DHT levels go back to normal after missing one day or does it take several with it taking longer the longer you have used it?

Even though finasteride has a short half life. It works by killing dht. I've heard varying studies, but finasteride kills about 70% of your dht on a 1mg dose. It takes your body about a week to two weeks off finasteride to recover all the lost dht. Even missing one day or two days won't have much of an effect. However, if you feel better splitting the pill, you can do that. How much do you take? But in any case, don't worry, you're protected.

Half life doesn't mean that you multiply the given half-life by two in order to find out depletion times. It's a rough estimate of how long it takes for half of the given element to to be metabolized and eliminated from the bloodstream. BUT achieving the steady state (the point at which the amount that goes into the body is equal to the amount that's eliminated) usually takes 4 (four) times that amount of time (of the given half time) to reach the steady state (complete elimination). Hope this helps.

(Also, the expected half-life of a drug will vary from person to person, depending on age, weight, genetics, and even specific health issues.)

Finasteride has a half life of ~5-6 hrs , however when it binds to the 5ar2 enzymes they stay inactive until they are replaced , this process takes about 5 days. You would probably be fine if you used finasteride every 2nd day , your hair wont remain unprotected for 12 hrs

i dont think finasteride works differently for the hairline and the other areas , as long as your hairline is not super sensitive to androgens it will at least get stabilised
