I've been on minoxidil for 13 monthes now. Throughout this duration there have been times where I've missed a few days here and there, and currently, I am just using it once per day because my hair is longer and I hate the greasy look it has if I put it on before I start my day. Also, I've read once per day is suitable for maintaining what I have.
My girlfriend and my hairdresser say it's gotten thicker, but it may just be because I'm growing my hair longer and I use nizerol as well as a thickening shampoo.
Objectively, when I look in the mirror, it doesn't look like much of an improvement, although I do see some new hairs sprouting up at the front, as well as other areas of the crown.
I think by shaving my head, I will get better results because applying minoxidil can be more thorough, and I am also considering starting on finasteride. If I start on finasteride, then I can expect a shed, so shaving my head will allow me to care less about loosing hair if it is already short....perhaps by the time it starts to grow long again the new hairs will be joining them.
But after a lot of research, I realize that these solutions may just be for maybe 5 years or so. I'll be 25 and then have to face these problems again, still at a young age.
I guess I am feeling a bit down, and considering putting this all behind me. I think I might actually look half decent with shaved head, but the main thing I am worried about is the contrast in thickness between the sides of my head and the top, where it is thin.
Just for the record, I don't have any pictures, but my hair is just past my ears now and most people, including close friends don't notice the thinning hair...so I am a bit worried about the surprise and reactions if they can notice my hair is thin.
This is a hard thing to deal with at the ripe age of 20.
What are your thoughts on shaving it all off, maybe getting some tattoos. hahaa
