Hi folks,

Haven't posted on here in a while and looking for some advice. I have been on finasteride, minoxidil and nizoral for almost 3 years. Im around a norwood 2, maybe a 2.5, and luckily the hair loss hasn't gotten much worse since i started taking finasteride a few years back. I currently take 2.5mg a day and apply minoxidil foam twice a day. Recently, members of my family have commented that my hair has gotten much thicker. My re-growth is rather minimal, maybe some thinner hairs on my hairline, but nothing substantial.

My doctor was happy to set me up on a .5mg dosage of dutasteride, but i have read a lot of stories here about it wreaking havoc on peoples hairlines. This is obviously something i would like to avoid. My question is, should I give it a go, or should i stick with my current dosage of finasteride since things haven't really gotten worse? I know that there is a chance of more severe sides on dutasteride (never got any on finasteride), and that it stays in your system longer. I was going to give oral minoxidil a go, but the stuff i read about what it can do to your heart definitely made me think twice about it. I am also wondering if i should keep taking finasteride, and only take dutasteride a couple times a week.

Appreciate the advice in advance!

It depends on how unhappy you are and how you view the future. Many of us are unable to duplicate any type of sides from reductase inhibitors and I take two. Duta has better specs than finasteride in terms of mopping up reductase but that's about all that we know. FDA approval and testing was for Duta as a prostate medication. Some say that it things are working then don't f*** with them but others will always be unhappy if there is apparent hair to be had out there with low risk of doing so. Nobody can explain why duta and P4 are said to be effective on different parts of the scalp since DHT is DHT although redutases differ with at least three forms mentioned in the literature.
