Considering Starting Taking Finasteride, Few Questions

Hello. Recently I've noticed my hair in front got thinner than the rest. This is visible only when my hair is wet and combed backwards under light, otherwise looks ok. Attached some photos so you could see it.

Im thinking about starting taking Finasteride. I know about all the side effects etc. One thing that bothers me is: are there any studies that can prove that Finasteride is causing any permanent changes in body, hormones or what ever during long term use (like, 5,10 or 20 years), that will stay after quitting the drug? This question probably has been asked many times but Im new here and its kinda hard to navigate through all the information.

Should I talk with the doctor before starting finasteride? Also attached photos of my nw3 recently thinned in front.

Hello. Always talk to a doctor first. Maybe this is something of interest to you.

When it comes to Finasteride, there’s one thing that worries me most:

Finasteride appears to increase androgen receptor activity in the prostate. That’s not necessarily a big deal… But it gets worse: this change in androgen receptor activity doesn’t go away, even after stopping Finasteride treatment.

Why is this a problem? Well, if you get off Finasteride (Propecia), your prostate has remodeled to have an even higher amount of androgen receptors. DHT has a higher affinity for androgen receptors than many other testosterone derivatives. Because of this, there’s a good chance if you increase your androgen receptors, the more likely DHT will arrive to those sites.

In other words, if your prostate remodels and you get off Finasteride, your prostate is likely going to flood with more DHT than if you never took Finasteride to start.

If your prostate stayed the same, after not taking finasteride, why would people that take it for enlarge prostates take it for life? If once it shrunk, it never reverted, why would they keep taking it and waste money?

It doesnt stay the same. The prostate will grow again after quitting finasteride. The androgen receptors have increased if we may believe that study. That means after quitting finasteride it could get flooded with dht and even grow harder than before.
