Hello, today I went to a dermatologist for the first time, so she can prescribe me dutasteride. I told her that I have androgenetic alopecia and that I wanted to start dutasteride... and she basically said that she can not prescribe dutasteride without doing some exams first. So she made me analyze my PSA (total and free).
Ok... anybody knows why she wants my PSA levels, and what does this have to do with taking dutasteride?
And how should my PSA levels be for her to give me dutasteride?
TY!

PSA is a protein produced in the prostate, high PSA levels can indicate possible prostate cancer, although I'm not sure why'd they'd test you for it before prescribing dutasteride, maybe it's age related if you're older or something to do with where you live?
