Hi all long time Lurker first time poster. Hope I can get some advice/info on my experience;

BackGround

I just turned 27 not to long ago, and recieved hair loss as my 21st birthday present. No one in my family has hairloss not even my grandfather's in there 80's, besides a natural mature hairline. As a result I pretty much avoid family gathering's now that its that noticable. Doctors say family history doesnt matter but just the same no history, even asked if I was adopted.

I work out as often as possible mosly 5 days a week alternating aerobic with anaerobic. Even though I'm reletively strong I have a real hard time putting any muscle on, or losing weight when I put it on.

I have also been sick most my life with severe OCD. Not Tony Shaloub OCD but Howard Hughs end of life hotel room OCD. So I havent really had much of a life to speak of, not complaining or trying to do a sob story just thought if might be of note as I really havent scene the same pattern hair loss.

Hairloss

Pretty much on my 21st birthday all my hair diffusly thinned, sides included by about 25-30%. Since then it's increased with all my hair receding from my face including sides, which I really havent scene besides really late term baldness. The middle seems to relatively keep pace with the temples and sides which I find a bit odd.

I really dont have a hairline and cant style it in any way besides messy coverage. The top and sides continue to diffusely thin at about a 3-1 ratio respectively. Itchy at times and if I kept running my hands thru my hair im pretty sure it would just keep coming out. Pictures Below;

Notice alot of the areas that are suppose immune are affected.

Medical

Went to a Derm he looked at me for 30 secs for $100 and said male pattern, didnt even do a pull. Asked for a second opinion and he sent me to a specialist in NYC. In the mean time I had my GP order full battery of blood tests and a adrenal fatigue/function test. All came back in range if not on the lower end of the values for hormones. I brought the tests with me to show specialist and he couldnt even read the values even though the ranges are printed on the sheet, and had to look it up in a text book(facepalm). Got a punch biopsy, came back as a non scarring alopecia. Here are some of the things I've tried and there effects.

Minoxidil 15%- No observable effect, makes my left eye twitch.

Propecia 0.5-2.0 - Was on between 3-4 months before switching to Advodart no observable effect.

Advodart 0.5-2.0 - Was on it for about 7-8 more months again no observable effect.

Xandrox with Retinol - Again no real observable effect, made the skin a bit red and thin.

Ketoconazole - In the form of Nizoral, dont know if it does really that much but helps with itch and generally feals better after.

I'm just trying to keep what I have and started early yet nothing is even slowwing it. I just put Minoxidil on just feel like I'm doing something. Should mention I've been on probly every SSRI at one time or another with little effect and stopped them a couple years ago just in case it was them not that they rly helped. I'm a little perplexed by at how it's falling out (sides included) and would be happy to here any advice or experiences with an similiar case. Sorry for the long post and ty and gl to everyone.

Re: Crazy & Hairloss

Some form of Telogen Effluvium? DUPA? The antiandrogenic male pattern baldness treatments ain't going to do anything for DUPA/Telogen Effluvium

Yeah, that's a very strange pattern. I would see a doctor, for sure.

Re: Crazy & Hairloss

Thanks for the replies, there really appreciated. Like I said in the post I've scene a derm within the first 3 years of this the first said male pattern baldness basically in 30 secs, so I asked for a second opinion and they sent me to NYC Specialist also a derm who specializes in hair loss. To para phrase from my first post I wasnt impressed and he basicly said the same thing did a punch biopsy and couldnt read the endocrine blood test. Went back again to the first Derm now that its been a couple years and he says the same thing.

By Telogen Effluvium do you mean telogen effluvium? As far as I know Telogen Effluvium is like spotty, and is temporary. Im not sure what DUPA is?

wow man that doesnt look like the usual hairloss, im no dr. butfor what i know behind your ears and arround neck hair never goes away, its the hair they use for transplants..have u seen a dermatologist?

Thats what I thought but every time I go to the doctor they just say male pattern baldness. I'll tell you this much I've been to more doctors in my life then probly most people wont see in there lifetimes. I don't know if this is only true for NY but I'd say 60-70% really dont know there *** from there elbow, and about 85-90% only give a %$#& for as long as your in there office and they can make money off you.

Re: Crazy & Hairloss

Sorry to hear about the runaround you've gotten with the dermatologists. I would hope that they would know what they were doing...

Keep trying. If you're lucky, you have some kind of skin issue that is causing the hair loss. Maybe if you connect with the right dermatologist, they'll be able to correct whatever is causing the unusual loss you are experiencing.

Good luck man, keep us posted.

Hi,
IMO, if u have done blood test and it shows everything is normal. And also u already try the big 3 and get no results. If probably, Telogen Effluvium which is resting phase for hair growth cycle. What u can do is stop stress about it and get a healthy diet. Stay away from smoke and alcohol. Wait for another few months to see if it grow back.

looks like DUPA: diffuse unpatterned alopecia. basically, it's like female pattern baldness in that your hair thins rather than recedes, but it thins all over the head in no apparent pattern. some say that drugs only work half the time with dupa, and hair transplants are not an option since the donor hair is of questionable quality.
