Dandruff is driving me crazy

I've always had terrible hair: greasy scalp, dandruff (white particles all over the scalp) and finally male pattern baldness.

Finasteride was a god's send and solved most of those problems. My hair is no longer greasy and the hair loss is under control. Dandruff is still a problem, though.

Everytime I go to a hairdresser, I always hear how bad my dandruff problem really is. I've tried many shampoos but nothing seems to work and I don't know what else to do. I'm not even sure if this is really dandruff or something else: the white scales stay close to the scalp and yesterday my hairdressser told me the skin was red. This is even more frustrating because it's difficult to check the top of my head to see how things really are.

Any ideas?

I have found this works to an extent but I do one of two things

1. After rinsing my hair in warm water, I rinse it in cold water. I always felt that helped.

2. Taking a break from dandruff shampoos

I have to agree with you on finasteride though, it has eliminated that 'itch' on my crown/vertex and even if I touch my hair it still gets a little greasy but nowhere near as it did before.

Nizoral's original intent was as an anti-dandruff shampoo, it's what it's advertised as.

If you haven't tried that, or aren't currently using it, you should definitely add it to your regimen.

Yes Nizoral, ALSO they make a 2% version available but only by prescription in the states. Otherwise you can get it through canadien pharmacies and have them ship it to you.

Make sure you are leaving your dandruff shampoo on your scalp for a GOOD FIVE minutes or so before rinsing. This will make a difference.
