Hello,
I am a new member and would like to post my situation with regard to hair loss.
I am a male, approaching 24.5 years of age. My pattern is currently somewhere around a Norwood 1.5 to Norwood 2 with diffuse thinning over quite a bit of the top of the head and temples, although there is still decent enough coverage that hair loss is not obvious except under bright lights. This is partly due to having curly/wavy hair. I have a history of male pattern baldness on my father's side. Strong genetics working against me.
My loss started when I was about 17 and I used Rogaine very sporadically at the time for a couple of years, not seriously at all. Only a little over one year ago at age 23 did I start actively treating the male pattern baldness. I started on 1 mg of Propecia and used this for about 9 months until last November. I was a good responder with maintenance and some noticeable regrowth but quit due to side effects, mainly mood swings/depression. I never had anything like this before.
Soon after I started Rogaine 5%and used Nizoral 1% every other day. I used this combination for about three months with general maintenance but still some temple and frontal thinning/recession. One month ago, I switched to Xandrox 5%, in order to add some DHT suppression (possibly). I quit this after a month due to some side effects.
Just a week ago, I changed my regimen to spironolactone 5% cream from Dr. Lee twice a day, minoxidil. 2% once a day, Nizoral 1% every other day, and AC Revitalize shampoo every other day. My goal is to main my current hairline and overall density, the way I did using Propecia alone. I plan to use these for a year and see what happens. Using this combination of treatments, spironolactone 5% will be the primary component. Given my side effect profile and my desire for maintenance, I would like to know what other people think of this regimen.
