Decreasing from 1.25mg finasteride to 1mg

Hi all,

I have been taking 1.25mg/day finasteride (proscar) for around 9 years. Earlier this year, my dermatologist had me switch to 1mg/day propecia combined with a topical solution that I have been making myself of Rogaine + 30mg finasteride. I am concerned that the .25mg/day difference taken orally could have a negative impact on my hair.

Any thoughts on this? I would like to stay on the 1mg/day just because it is so much more convenient, but should I for any reason be worried about lowering my oral dosage? I'm thinking no and this is probably just paranoia, especially given that I am doing a small dose of topical finasteride on my hairline topically with minoxidil as well. That said, I have been on it for so long (since 18!) that changing anything worries me.

I don't think you should worry. Dropping from 1.25 to 1 should not make any difference in efficacy.

Why are you adding topical finasteride/min along with oral? Did oral 1.25mg not stop your hairloss?

Ok good to know. My dermatologist said it would be fine to add topical finasteride alongside oral and sent me a formula I could make myself. It has about half the finasteride dissolved compared to others I have seen online (30mg/2oz vs. 60mg/2oz).

Overall, I am worried that I was slowly losing hair in the front with the 1.25mg finasteride and want to do what I can to maintain it or even grow some back since I'm only 27.
