Throughout the last 9 years, I have been on an intense fight in stopping hairloss. It was at age 18 when things started to progress and I began to thin. It was 1997 and I had recently graduated from high school. I had thick, I mean thick long and curly dark hair. My graduation picture showed me with my cap and this massive fro underneath. It was truely nice.
Following my graduation and the entrance into college life, I began to show signs of thinning. My hair started to fall out and I was in shock. Despite my father being completely bald and he did at a relatively young age, I never thought that I could start losing my hair so young. As a nieve young teenager, I really didn't know what to do. It wasn't until I had a checkup at the doctors office that I decided to ask him about my hairloss. Fortunately, I did because as a young doctor himself showing signs of hairloss, he recommended that I start taking propecia. Propecia was fairly new to the market but showed promising results in hairgrowth and maintenance in their trials. I decided to take it to at the very least curb or stop this dreadful pain.
Since then, I have been taking propecia. Yeah, nearly 9 years. Amazing! I can say beyond a doubt that I attribute propecia and curbing my hairloss to many successes in my life. What I mean is that by being so young and living in a materialistic society where many judge things based off of appearances, I truely believe that that if I was bald, I could not have been able to appreciate all that I have in life. I felt very fortunate. The woman, especially, the woman, jobs, school, making connections and everything else that could be tied to ones appearance. Don't get me wrong however, I was still hiding this dreadful thinning on my crown and front. Fortunately, my hair, curly and dark could sort of hide those thinning spots. But for how long? I was also very uncomfortable when my hair was wet. The balding spots where extremely noticeable when my hair was wet. It looked detestful and I was in fear of many people to notice.
Until recently, things have been great. It wasn't until May or June that I began noticing more and more hair falling out. I was scared sh*%less. I thought that it was just a phase and it would stop. Consequently, it seemed that propecia had now lost its effectiveness. I was also frightened because I was flying overseas to see my girlfriend and I didn't want her to see me at this phase.
I continued the use of propecia until September. It wasn't until I found this forum in August that I was able to change my regimen based on the great advice I was given by many people. I now realized that things have progressed in the hairloss business and more could be done. How wonderful and a relief it has been for me to be able to discuss with others going through the same problem. Since joining, I have changed my regimen to dutasteride, 5% minoxidil, nizoral, and folligen. I have been on these meds for about a month and half except the dutasteride and nizoral and see some slight improvements. Hopefully, with continued use, I can achieve more.
I will post some pics as soon as I get a new dig cam adapter. The battery is dead. Ha! Thanks to everyone who has helped me progress in fighting this stage of hairloss. Updates to come....
