Alritey folks, finally was able to sign up, had to make about 7 new email accounts but I've arrived in one piece!

Basically I'm a 21 year old guy and about a year ago I started noticing the hair around my temples starting to recede. First I thought nothing of it since I always have a calves lick on the left side and I figured it was not to be worrying about.

Recently however its got undeniable so I decided to shave my head to a number 2 blade and see if it really was that bad (my head kinda suits a short looks and I had shaved before so I didnt mind). And yep its receding, here are some pics. Apologise for the shocking quality, also remember the pics are in a dark light so the receding is worse than it might appear. The crown seems to be fine so I didnt take any pics there though I'll most likely use some minoxidil there too.

http://img40.imagevenue.com/img.php?ima ... _327lo.JPG

Im a fairly confident guy and baldness won't affect me psychologically too much BUT like most young guys here, I dont wanna lose it this young without trying to do something about it! Now Propecia I'm afraid is a no no, anything that might adversely affect my pipes is not worth it, also I'm a penniless student so Regaine seems to be the way to go for me.

So here's what I'm planning. Friday I get paid so I'm thinking I'll go looking in Dublin (I'm Irish) for the 3 month supply of 5% Regaine and also Nizoral shampoo.

UPDATE--------

So its been six months since the regime began and heres the good news. No shedding has occured whatsoever and ive even stopped using the Nizoral as ive no flaky scalp. I use 1/5 proscar every day and two Minoxidil applications. To be honest I tend to miss the 14 per week applications, its usually around 10-11 because of returning home drunk at night or too late for work in the morning!

Anyways enough babbling, again here is me in August

http://img40.imagevenue.com/img.php?ima ... _327lo.JPG

And here is me now

http://img40.imagevenue.com/view.php?im ... _327lo.JPG

Now the second pic can be a bit decieving. The hairline is definetly improved but im still not at the stage where I can think about growing a fringe or slick my hair back. Theres a lot of new hair on the temples but its still not as thick as the middle and im now sure if it will be. HOWEVER hairloss at the front seems to have stopped so I've just growing my hair and learning not to worry about it. Have an excellent barber too, trust me guys this is a MUST!

Also if you remember back in aug my main prob was the temples. Now while they seem to have stopped the crown started to recede tremendously around Sept but is startin to calm down a bit now.

Anyways sorry for all the rambling, I'll post another update in 6 months where hopefully there will be more coverage on the temples and that nasty crown will be under control. Feel free to ask me q's or share your thoughts. Thanks

Emmet

1. I live in America, however, it shouldn't be difficult to find. You can also look for generics as they will be much cheaper. Just look for the active ingredient to be Minoxidil 5%. Don't get the 2% solution.

2. Shedding should not be a major issue. I wouldn't worry about it.

3. Regaine is a brand name for Minoxidil. It does tend to be a bit greasy, so give yourself about 30 minutes after applying before you go venturing out. It's usually not noticable after it dries. However, if you put a bunch on, it might flake a little, but nothing to be concerned about. There's not much of a smell to Minoxidil.

4. If you apply it twice daily, you will see better results than just once daily. If you are willing to compromise results, then you can use it less often than recommended.

5. I doubt that you will get your old hairline back. I was on minoxidil for a year and all I really got to grow was peach fuzz.

Why is propecia not an option? I am 20 and have been on it for 2 months with no sides thus far. Despite what you read, only 2% of people experience side effects but I'd say that close to 100% of those people let it be known that they did experience side effects on message boards; so don't let these people scare you from it.

Well I keep seeing a lot higher prices for Propecia and also I think worrying about the side effect could even cause side effect down there, if anything ever went wrong I'd probably be quick to blame the propecia!

Also I don't think Propecia is as widely available as Rogaine over here.

What price should I be expecting if i was to purchase Propecia in a chemist or pharmacy would you think? Also do you know if it would be more effective for my temples than minoxidil?

Appreciate your reply :)

go propecia... i could never imagine applying that two my head 2x a day for the rest of my life, especially in the company of a women....

actually i started that and it irritated the crap out of my scalp, think it lasted about 10 days and caused a telogen effluvium

sides are less than 3%...

I still do think minoxidil is the way to go but I see what you're saying. Again the two problems are the cost and the side effects. I'm starting a college course abroad and with fees, accomodation etc I cannot justify spending the equivalent of (EDITED-) $70+ a month for Propecia with minoxidil seems to be around $30 in comparison. From the estimates I'm getting here that's what it will cost and that would burn a huge hole in my pocket over time.

Also I keep hearing minoxidil is better for the front than Propecia? And yes "honey ill be back in one sec.... ok i'm back.. just please don't touch my head for 4 hours k, lets snuggle" doesn't sound ideal but seems my best option right now

minoxidil can be as little as $7 a month.

Propecia, if you get the generic stuff, can also be very cheap, but not quite as cheap as minoxidil.

minoxidil is only tested on the crown, but works at the front too, yes. Propecia.com states that propecia isnt proven to be effective on the temples and hairline, but this is probably because they are the hardest areas to treat and never respond as well as the rest of the head. Many people have had success with propecia at the front.

If you get quick drying minoxidil from Dr Lee, you can wash it off after an hour, so dont worry about your honey touching your hair. However this is around $16 a month.

You should do something to address DHT, as minoxidil will not stop your baldness, but it will provide an offset of regrowth. Eventually your baldness will overtake the effect of minoxidil.

Propecia is undoubtedly the best method of addressing DHT, but if side effects are an issue, you could try a topical antiandrogen. If you mix your own spironolactone (a topical antiandrogen, very simple to mix), it can be less than $10 a month. Spironolactone doesnt have the clinical backing that propecia does, however.

Ok clearly you know a lot more about what you're talking about than I could hope too so if you could recommend a proper regime for me that would be very helpful. I haven't really read up much on topical antiandrogens but anything I could combine with Nizoral and Rogaine at not too much expense would be tremendous. Anything else I should possibly be aware of?

Umm also some antiandrogens I'm reading seem to have worse side effect than Propecia! Gynecomastia scares me :(

Will Rogaine used at my stage hold off any need for Antiandrogens for a few years? Or do I absolutely need to include them to achieve my goal (last years hair)

- I won't be able to reply to your message until tomorrow as I'm going to bed now (irish time remember) but please respond and I'll thank you in the morning

It will be very difficult to achieve last years hairline. However, if you want to do so, you MUST get on propecia (finasteride) or Avodart (Dutasteride). It is essential as it will help block DHT. If you need to get a prescription and price is an issue, tell your doctor that you would like to get Proscar, which is 5 mg of finasteride instead of the 1mg of finasteride in propecia. You then get a pill cutter and split it in 4ths or 5ths and take it everyday. It can be a big money saver. If you don't want to go to a doctor, you can get Finpecia (generic of Propecia) or Fincar (generic of Proscar) and cut the fincar up in 4ths or 5ths.

I would highly recommend taking a DHT blocker such as one of these. Again, would you rather compromise your money or compromise your hair?

As for a regime. I am currently using Minoxidil 5% two times per day. Nizoral 1% every 3 days. Propecia every day.

Some people do more than this and some do less. However, I would get on a regime at least similiar to this if you want to maintain or regrow a little hair.

minoxidil has nothing to do with androgens... thats what finasteride is for

actually, it's not exactly understood how minoxidil works to grow hair...

nobody has ever grown back hair, like your goal, without an antiandrogen

even if you do get Gynecomastia, you will be able to tell before anything happens because of breast tenderness, quit propecia, and you will not grow any

also, get generic proscar (5mg finasteride) and cut it into 4ths to save even more money

Now that's not true at all. Many have. Most would be on minoxidil, yes, and it probably wouldn't last, yes, but some do.

Check out Bryan's pictures - he maintained regrew his hair over two years using nothnig but prox-n.

But i agree, of course, that for the majority, especially younger people, something addressing DHT is a must.

how to grow your hairline cheaply

derekthepirate2006

If you want to buy stuff online, take $100 and go open yourself a bank account. Find one that does not have a high monthly fee. Your parents won't know if you don't tell them. Make sure the bank card will have a Visa or Mastercard logo on it. Most do. No credit required. It is not a credit card but can be used like one. Once it is open, you can lower the balance if you want, by buying stuff on line.

You need propecia. It will greatly reduce the odds of you getting prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men. Side effects are rare, go away if you stop, and you should try it first and see if you get any before you worry about them. Asprin has more side effects.
As for propecia, get proscar. The active ingredient is finasteride. Proscar has 5mg, propecia has 1mg. At a regular pharmacy proscar is $90 USD and propecia is 60. You can get these for half the price online without a prescription. Ask Beaner or Goingat20 where they get theirs. Elitenetpharmacy is one place.
1 USD = about 0.6 pounds.
0.2 mg/day regrow 82% as much hair as 1mg/day, which regrows 83% as much hair as 5mg/day. The dose is not important. Cut the Proscar with a $5 pill cutter. Cut it in 8 pieces and take one every other day. That will cost you $90/16 = 6 USD per month. I know you can afford that. This will give you 0.3 mg/day, which will lower you DHT levels just as much as Propecia will.

If you can spend an extra $6, get Avodart at elitenetpharmacy $60 and take one 0.5mg capsule every 5 days. That is as strong as 5mg finasteride per day and will cost you $12 per month, instead of $6 for finasteride.

Of corse get generic Rogaine, which is called minoxidil 5%. If it costs too much over there, order it for $27 for 4 bottles at minoxidildirect.com. Dr Lee is at minoxidil.com. You can get both and use the dr Lee's before you sociallize, but it is ok to use it once a day some days. i think you should put half a mL around your hair line and front sides at night, and then do the normal minoxidil 5% in the morning over most of your top for maintainence. That will be $4 per month for the regular stuff and $18/4 = $5 for the quick drying, totalling $9 per month.

Get nizoral 1% shampoo. It costs $15 dollars per bottle. Find a generic if you can. Wash your hair with a tea spoon 2 times a week. That will last you 14 weeks, which is about $4 per month, and will help keep more hair from shrinking. It is a weak anti-androgen, good for your strong hair but not good enough for the thinning ones. It also will take away any irritation if minoxidil gives you any.

You need copper peptides. These are great for damage control for many post DHT follicle attacks. Buy folligen liquid spray for $25 (Felk, where is the best place to buy it?) Dilute it with water to 1/2 strength. don't apply about 2mL to your whole top and hair line one every other day. That should last you 4 months (right guys?) for $6 per month.

If you want to regrow your hairline for sure, you need a strong anti-androgen on just your hairline. I'm not going to take the time writing the directions for making your own spironolactone cream for $10/month because it might be a problem if your girlfriend stays over a lot. Ask Felk if you want directions. I advise you to buy Eucapil for $50 for a month supply. It comes in 2mL glass ampules that you break open. Get some silly puddy and seal them air tight and try to make each one last 4 days, using it only on your hair line. This will drop the cost to $13 per month, and it evaporates in 2 minutes. Do it 3 hours after you shower when your hair is very dry. Go to Eucapil.com.

That comes to $39 USD per month, which is 21 pounds per month.
If that is too much for you, you should just
* use the minoxidil 5% once a day and maybe twice when you can, skip the dr Lee's, (save $5 per month)
* dilute the follligen to 1/3 dose every third day (save $3 per month)
* And apply the eucapil every other day or two days out of three (make sure it does not evaporate on you! seal it good) (save $5 per month)

This brings your monthly cost down to $26 per month, which is 14 pounds.
If that is still to much, you can forget about regrowing your hairline. Just get some peack fuzz and keep the hair you have. I think you need the eucapil every day. If it is too expensive the home made spironolactone is cheaper but messy.

And if you already suppliment your diet with protein powder, cut back a little and use the money to get arginine bonded to glutamine. You can find it at vitacost.com. I won't explain the biology but you can read about it at drproctor.com. The arginine helps your hair, and the glutamine gets it absorbed better than L-arginine. The glutamine is also a conditionally essential amino acid that you need if you work your muscles VERY hard. You need it for recoveries. So if you workout really hard in the gym, you get two for one. Take 2 grams total per day.

If you just put 0.5 mL on your hair line and front sides, you save another $3 per month. It works in the hairline like they said. You don't have to cover all the skin. It can diffuse 1 cm in every direction under the scalp.

If you have a credit card, this site is the best price.

If shipping is an issue, like it is for me (australia) this site had somewhat cheaper shipping.

http://www.unicoenterprises.com/

However, since it's an 8oz bottle, dirt cheap shipping is hard to find. Sniff around though, im sure something will turn up.

Deekey boy!

Get propecia from inhouse pharmacy (online) I got (generic) finasteride 5mg which I cut into four bits for £17.62 That's a third of a years worth. Minoxidil doesn't fight the DHT just makes the hair growth process quicker. You wont really reverse too much with it. I really wouldn't be scared of propecia, if anything it's made me more razzed up! I've only been on it for three weeks. You should be able to get Minoxidil in boots the chemist, Nizoral probably best online.

derekthepirate2006,

skipping the expensive topical anti-androgens like eucapil is understandable on your bugget.

however, if you get 2 bottles of folligen from follica.com, the shipping is free, and if you dilute it 50-50 with water and use it every other day, it will last you a year, which means $5 per month. it works synergistically with minoxidil. i think you should get on it.

also, the nizoral 2% costs more than the 1%. The 1% is 8 pounds for 7 ounces, and regrew just as much hair in clinical trials as the 2%. You could save money on the nizoral and use it to get the copper peptides.

minoxidil protects and repairs blood vessels and neutrallizes some free radicals and protects your follicles from scarring. it does more than just speed up hair growth and increase the percentage in the growth phase.

Are you sure about this practice? i work in a pharmaceutical company and usually if a tablet is not scored the active ingredient is not equally distributed in the tablet, so let say you have a table of 3 mg (not scored) if you divided into 2 , the active on the left side can be considerable different from the right (like 1mg and 2mg) or it can be all on one side

Those tablets which can be divided and have their active evenly distributed are usually scored.
