Dermatologist:"Propecia has virtually no side effects" WTF?

I went to a dermatologist to ask about a Miniaturization Study and he had no idea what I was talking about.

He then offered me Propecia and I told him I'm worried about the side effects and he said "there are virtually no known side-effects of Propecia"...... WTF?

From what I read here, nearly everyone has side effects, just some have more than others.
I asked about brain fog and I realize that it is a very rare side effect but he looked at me like I was out of my mind.

From what I read on this forum, it seems that after 5 years a considerable number of users stop taking the drug because the can't deal with the side effects anymore.

I talked to two pharmacists and they were only slightly more knowledgeable than the Derm. The derm as well as the pharmacists were all about 30-40 years old and balding. If the drug is so great why aren't they all taking it?

Here are my pictures, is it my time yet for finasteride?

Christ....NO! Not "virtually everyone" has side effects. The reason you think that is because you're putting WAY too much stock in small group of forum users. People are about 100x more likely to complain about something than they are to compliment something.

Merk has done extensive testing on the drug, as well as other 3rd parties. They've all found the same thing, about a 2% chance of sides.

That is a fact. Anything else you here is just conjecture and people lashing out because of their own negative results from the drug.

Since finasteride is 90% effective in stopping hair loss, does that mean I can draw a line in the sand and say "if things go to Norwood X, I will start finasteride" and then expect finasteride to hold me at Norwood X?

Seems like a bunch people still lose about half a Norwood after several years on finasteride(from other threads). Best to start it up when you have as much left as possible.

Yeah dude not many people have sides on finasteride. I was one of them, but the studies don't lie. Even independent studies came up with similar results as the Merck ones.

It's not 90% effective in stopping hair loss. 90% of men RESPOND to finasteride. I'm still losing hair, but not NEARLY at the rate that I was before I started finasteride. Best bet it to start finasteride before you get to the point where you say "sh*t....I'm so thin that I think I need to start"

In 2 days you're gonna blame it on finasteride again.

I think it's weird that dermatologists are the main "reference persons" for finasteride. I don't have any studiy on this, but I guess 90% of dermatologists don't have a clue about the 5ar enzyme and DHT's effects on the hair follicle.

Maybe you just misunderstood your dermatologist.... or, perhaps your doctor is some money-sucking specialist.

Anyway, anything you ingest or apply topically or anything that you use for your body has side effects and it is up to you to tolerate those side effects. If you are unable to tolerate the side effects, there are still those meds that will help alleviate the side effects. It's just a cycle. :punk:
