Hey All,
I've been on Finasteride for five months now and have not had any luck what-so-ever, with only a dramatic increase in hair loss. Last April I noticed my temples thinning, so I went to a doctor who immediately prescribed me Finasteride. I was only shedding maybe 10 noticeable hairs a day, which was probably caused by Rogaine which I used for my right temple. But being a college student, I freaked and hopped on finasteride. I also started using nizoral 1% on April 20, and then started using 2% on July 10th.

I began taking 1 mg on April 5, and in the beginning of June I was shedding profusely. After starting finasteride, my crown started to tingle and itch, which hasn't stopped to this day. I never had the itch before. Today, my crown has thinned out very much, but it's still not very noticeable, just to my hypersensitive awareness.

On July 2nd, because my hairline was starting to take a hit from the shedding, I started applying Rogaine. It's continued to thin out in this area, but I can see new hairs sprouting, leaving me not too worried. They will fill in--hopefully.

On July 20th I couldn't deal with the itch anymore, so I lowered my dosage to .82 mg (5mg finasteride divided into 6ths). This helped relieve the sore scalp and itchyness for a few weeks, but the pain returned towards the middle of August. For those who might argue Reflex-Hyperandrogenicity, I've monitored my side effects, and I don't have an increased libido, oily hair, increase in pimpes/acne, etc. All I have is this god dam itch.

My major concern is how to I combat this itch? I've continued to shed all over my head; I can pull clumps of 20 hairs from the sides and back of my head in non male pattern baldness areas. The top of my head has thinned out too, and my hair is now lifeless.

I just want to get rid of this itch, and I want to know which topicals I can use and what else can be done. I'm too young to bald, and I need to stop this thing in its tracks hoping that what I've shed will grow back.

What topicals can I use to further fight this inflammation? The itching/sore crown is where my hair is starting to thin more and more. What else can I add to my regimen? I'd really appreciate any and all advice.

Regime:
finasteride: .83 mg (no major sides)
Min: 2X a day on hairline (miss about 1 application a week
nizoral: 3x a week
Tgel: 3 x a week (started August 15th, 2013)

Family History:
My 27 year old brother has a mature hairline, but no crown thinning. My dad is bald, his brothers are bald, his father was bald. My maternal grandfather was bald at 35. Yes I have the gene, but I believe this sudden 5 month hairloss is far from natural.

Many thanks to all,
Scott

How old are you? i am in the exact situation hairline becoming thinner after using finasteride for three months. I also shed hairs from the non male pattern baldness areas is so strange maybe finasteride is causing tellogen eflivium.:dunno: As for the itch i had it in my second month on my left temple but now its gone but with some of my hair too:thumbdown2: Lets hope what we ve shed will come back thicker and not thinner. Maybe you should try aloe vera gel for the itch.

You should get the inflammation checked as there could be other reasons why it's occurring.

In my case propecia reduced the itching that I had before, even though it's dried my scalp that was once really oily. However, i still do get an itch now and then.

One thing I read about is that as we are young, our aggressive hairloss may be related to high insulin and high glucose in our blood as male pattern baldness in young men has been seen as a sign of diabetes (I'm 20 by the way), so I'm trying to cut down my intake of fat and sugar and throw in a good amount of exercise to see if it helps (In my family, there is a large amount of diabetes, especially among the men that are losing their hair). I would say to take this advice with a pinch of salt as more research is required but it doesn't harm to cut down on sugar and fat and to increase exercise.
