This person on Reddit used a toilet paper roll to show us the comparison between his diffused hairs on the top and the healthy hairs on the side of his head. One can see that the diffused scalp is pinkish-red, definitely inflammation there. One can also see that the healthy scalp produces stronger hairs with multiples, whereas the diffused area consists of few multiples.

I can barely tell the difference. I think it becomes a lot more noticeable when the hair is longer.

Probably why balders look better with short buzzed hair.

Now that’s quite interesting because I can’t see thinning there.. but a reddish scalp.
Inflammation? come on..... the guy say he uses dermapen once a week so this redness is surely caused by the device and you see the zone he wounds exactly. I would be interested to see this guy with longer hairs. interested to see thinning(ironic)...

Really is. One thing I have noticed is that minoxidil doesn't seem to regrow hair follicles with multiples. I really wonder why that is.

Multiples are mostly located on the sides of the scalp, back + middle up the scalp. Singles are mostly located on the hairline/first third. You don't want to regrow multiples, on the border of the hairline. that would look unnatural. Also primitive hairs on the hairline often have a different texture/thickness, they look sometimes weaker. But if you lose hairs on the crown or middle one should definitely see multiples hairs growing ...

Anyone can check the figures in the image? Is there is a suitable software to make it?
For me, clearly there is differences regarding thickness.

I’d used the same toilet roll technique back when I was at baseline and had buzzed my hair some 2.5 years ago. Been keen for sometime to quantify my gains since just need to get the courage to buzz it all off again .

One would have to be blind to not see the differences in hair caliber.

of course you have to be blind but you have to know what is a scalp and the different caracteristics to start with. The only fact you can't compare both picture is purely because you obviously have more multiples on the right because it is a different part of the scalp. So different caracteristics...
70 primitive hairs (15>30multiples of 2 or 3hairs) on the back > 70 primitive singles on the hairline in term of "looking density". Because multiples are healthier. When a young guy with a solid norwood 0 buzz his hairs you may sometimes thinks he has diffuse thinning but no, this is a illusion cause by hairs caracteristics ; )
that's why hair transplant is quite a science, and only best surgeons have the best results.
When you split multiples from donor area to implant on the hairline you definitely see there is something not natural there... that's why Doctor put the (rarer) singles from donor on the hairline.
