Hello! I am fairly new to this forum.

Recently, my boyfriend and I had a long discussion about solutions to thicken hair. It went on for about 30-45 minutes and we tried to do research on Google for an answer but we could not find anything substantive.

He believes there are some great topical solutions that can help thicken his hair that is thinning out. I disagree. I believe topical solutions don't really work.

I believe that you can beat thinning hair by eating better foods, keeping yourself healthy, and consuming a well balanced diet.

Does anyone know of different foods that can help with hair growth? Specifically for thinning hair. He wants his hair to be thicker, fuller, shinier and less thin. Does drinking a lot of water help? Should he focus on eating more protein? Less carbs? More carbs? Or does the food you eat not contribute to healthier, thicker, hair?

Would love to hear recommendations. Thanks in advance!

:)

Genetics, and hormones influence, and effect the state of someones hair. There is nothing in-between, and the prevalence of exercising, living a healthy life style free of carcinogens, and eating well makes zero difference. I have seen crack heads who shoot heroin, eat sh*t, and live in poor sanitary conditions who have full heads of thick hair.

Finasteride, and dutasteride are the only proven medications to inhibit DHT, and reverse miniaturized hairs that are early in progression.

Minixoidil can accelerate growth, and hair turn over which can make your hear appear thicker.

There's no good research on this issue. Don't speculate because the results are not necessarily intuitive.

A few possibilities:
- Moderate alcohol consumption is helpful, as shown in a twin study;
- Higher body mass index is helpful, as shown in a twin study ... sorry ;
- I think caloric restriction might be helpful by slowing down ageing;
- I think intermittent fasting might be helpful by raising SHBG, but that would require more evidence and is as such not a sufficient argument by itself;

But overall, you're unlikely to guess the solution from diet, and there might not be one, so don't go for a dietary approach.

OK, I didn't see that you were a noob.

The reason that there are no good studies is that it's simply hard to study. You'd have to have a lot of subjects try out several different diets for years to measure a difference, as hair loss takes years. Plus there are multiple kinds and patterns of hair loss. Plus there are no good guesses as alopecia is poorly understood.

You can research the proven methods on this site, which is a competent resource.

I think YOU want his hair to be thicker, fuller, shinier and less thin. What the f*ck is with EVERY woman ever subtly trying to slowly change her man??

So another person who associates hair loss with bad habits.
Because Nadal, Zidane, and all the sportsmen with thin hair are known to eat junk food and are unhealthy :rolleyes:

Was @WhitePolarBear 's hair loss related to bad diet, and nutrient deficiency? :D

And mine: the strict Mediterranean diet, universally known to minimize risk of heart disease and stroke.

Ran 5 miles two times a week, played basketball two times a week.

But yeah. We are not healthy, we called baldness on ourselves at 17.

I had the same discussion with my girlfriend when I first started losing my hair. She told me she did some research and found that the only thing that I could eat to help thicken my hair was pussy. I ate her out twice a day, every day. I really didn't get much regrowth so I stopped after 6 months. She told me I should have probably given it more time to work, but I don't know....probably just more snake oil.

Never seen a heroin addict or alcoholic under 40 with bad hair. Substance abuse is the cure. Want to keep your hair? Shoot heroin between your toes and drink cheap vodka

One of the best looking rock stars ever, full of heroin for the last years of his great life.
But yeah; he probably ate tofu on tour.

Judging by everyone's hysterical laughing clips, I guess this would be a bad time to say that I tried the NoFap experiment to reverse thinning. After all, DHT is released upon climaxing ☺

What are bad carbs?

Is that like bread and pasta?

I didn't even know that there were good carbs.
