Diffuse thinner without shedding?

I'm 24 and have been losing hair, in all honesty, since I was about 18. I've always had thin hair though so it's only recently that I've actually come to the realisation that I'm balding. I have some recession at the temples but I'm not too bothered about that. My main concern is how thin my hair is getting. When bright light is shone on my head you can see so much of the scalp.

This leads me to think I'm a diffuse thinner, however most people with diffuse thinning comment on how many hairs they shed. To the contrary if I run my hand through my hair I'm lucky to see one hair fall out (not sure lucky is the right word). Is it possible to be a diffuse thinner without the shedding. I know everyone's different so just thought I'd see what your opinions are.

I'll hopefully get some pics up at some point. Thanks in advance.

You must have really short hair if you don't even notice you're going bald. Or maybe you're not going bald. Some hair colors look thin in certain light.
