Diffuse thinning or just naturally thin hair?

Hey, I just noticed that I can sometimes see my scalp (specifically when my hair is cut short. I've included multiple pictures and lightings, also wet and dry. Does this look like vertex thinning/diffuse thinning specifically on the sides and back? The top appears to be full/thick.

In addition to this, the picture with the red circle is actually one I found from 2017, so its interesting to see that I had the same problem then but never noticed it until recently and started freaking out....

Did the 60 second combing test and lost only 1 hair, which seems low (10 is the threshold) anybody know how accurate this is? I'm really nervous that I'm losing hair.

It seems that you can see my scalp in certain lighting and angles but then it moves depending on the lighting or angle, which is really confusing.

I have always had extremely thin/fine hair, for what it's worth. That could also explain why I only lost 1 hair during the comb test since my hair is naturally very thin.

Dad has no hairloss at age 50, but maternal grandpa did lose hair.

Hairline seems solid, hasn't changed since 2017 (I have compared pictures)

Does this look like thinning or am I good? I've been freaking out these last few days trying to find an answer but I don't really know many people with similar hair type as me (very fine and thin, which may be contributing to this?)

Difficult to tell. It might only just be an illusion due to the direction and angle of the hair growth. It’s almost impossible to see early stage miniaturization with the naked eye. The pic with the red circle looks like the scalp is showing only because of “bed head” or clumping of hair. Don’t stress yourself out. Just monitor with good quality pics again in 6 months and compare/reevaluate. Make sure you take pics with similar hair style and length, camera angle, lighting, etc.

In the meantime, find out what age your maternal grandfather started losing his hair. How severe did it get? Did any other relatives go bald? male pattern baldness is polygenic and spans generations so it can come from anywhere in your family tree.

My maternal grandpa started losing hair in his 30s. Not sure how bad it is, but he looks pretty average for his age now regarding hairloss. I honestly don't care if I lose hair when I get old since that's normal by then, I just want to get through my early 20s at the very least without having to go bald. I don't believe anybody else in my family went bald (on my dads side). My dad also has a full head of hair still at 50.

It's so confusing, depending on the lighting/angle it looks so different. Gonna ask my barber next time I guess. For what its worth I'm barely losing any hair visibly
Could just have naturally fine hair or be the way it changes direction of growth on the crown but would definitely keep an eye on it

Yeah, I think i've always been like this but just never noticed it until recently. The top of my head feels exactly how it has forever, but it's also longer. Its mostly the sides that I noticed this (when I cut it really short). My barbers have all told me that my hair is extremely fine/thin and straight, as long as i can remember. Not sure why

You have similar hair to Josh Hartnett as in it’s just naturally thin I think

Update; Saw 3 dermatologists and confirmed that I do NOT have male pattern baldness. In fact, it appears that my crown and top of my head region has more density than my donor areas, to my surprise.

I was just told my hair was extremely fine which makes it appear that I could be balding at times, and my hairstyle was making the issue worse. So as of now I am just going to grow out my hair.

For anybody that happens to be browsing this forum with similar hair to me - this could be your answer.

Because your local dermatologist is a hair loss specialist I suppose? If that’s honestly what he said then he’s absolutely clueless to suggest your crown has more density than your donor. I can tell you from just looking at your picture that it doesn’t. See you in a couple of years I guess

Jealous hahaha, come off it pal. Care to explain what else that massive sparse patch is on his crown then if it’s not thinning? Notice how his donor area and hair above the crown region is thicker.. yet I’m the clown
