Do human dermal adipocytes switch from lipogenesis in anagen to lipophagy and lipolysis during catagen in the human hair cycle?
Our preliminary results suggest an oscillation between adipose basal lipolysis in anagen to stimulated lipolysis during catagen phase
•Lipophagy within human DAs may be a crucial mechanism used to achieve a faster and larger turnover of resident triglyceride stores within LDs, thus acting intrinsically to maintain a healthy metabolic status and healthy skin homeostasis
•An increased amount of cholesterol released by lipophagic DAs adjacent to catagen HFs might affect intrafollicular synthesis of hair growth-modulatory steroid hormones
•Clarifying whether human DAs switch from lipogenesis to lipophagy and lipolysis during anagen-catagen transition will generate new insights in human skin biology, and may identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention in the management of hair growth disorders
