Do I Apply Minoxidil To Bald Spot Or Entire Head?

Hi all,

This is my first post here. Apologies for the noob question, but I am just starting minoxidil and I am not sure where to apply it. My hair is thinning around the temples, and I am perhaps a norwood 1.5 or 2. My temples are completely bald but other than that I still have a full head of hair with no diffuse thinning

Do I apply the minoxidil to the entire top of my head where I might expect thinning to occur in the future, or do I only apply it to the area on my temples where hair has disappeared already?

you'll probably get a couple different answers on that question, but i only have a lil hair loss at temples im Norwood 1 or 1.5 and i only apply it there. Im very careful to not get it anywhere else. If the rest of your hair is healthy (no miniaturization) id only apply it at the troubled spots for now. Don't freak if you shed a lil where you apply it, it should start to grow back and hopefully stronger around month 3. Idk How old you are, if your on propecia or how quickly your hair loss happened; Those factors might influence my advice, but if your early in hair loss start small with the minoxidil and see how you respond

Thanks for your response. I'm 26 and I have been slowly losing it on my temples for maybe 3 years now. It has been so slow no one else really noticed it at first, but I could tell because patches of my temples were getting cold that weren't cold before. It is noticeable to others now.

I'm not using propecia or any other hair loss treatment at the minute. I am avoiding propecia because I read a number of scare stories about the side effects.

I do not have much thinning at all in the areas that are not bald. It is either baldness or normal hair. There is a slow march backwards but the area that is actually falling out seems to be confined to the very edge of my hairline.

hey no problem, i know hair loss can be stressful and you dont want to make anything worse! I wont tell you to get on propecia but, i will say most Don't have side effects from it. I was terrified of it for years and i made myself sick when i first started it bc of all those "Scare stories" But now at almost 9 months my libido is awesome, zero ED and my hair gets thicker by the month! But back to minoxidil... Id start small. Remember its pretty much forever if you want to keep the results and your hair will become dependent on it. Also some get irritation from some of the minoxidil formulas. I use brand rogaine foam. It caused some itching at first but now no problems. Hope i helped and feel free to ask me anything, Good Luck and welcome -Anthony

Thanks, I appreciate it. My plan was to try and prevent hair loss for as long as possible, then when things get bad either get an FUE or get cloning or multiplication if they are commercially available by that time.

What are your thoughts about infrared combs? There are some pretty cheap options on Amazon.

honestly im not to sure about those. Ive never seen anyone get results from them and the reviews ive read not really worth the time or money. But im no expert maybe others here have used them and can attest to their value for hair loss
