Do I NEED propecia?

I posted a similar post over in the monoxidal forum, so please excuse the repeat, just want to make sure I cover both camps...

Looking at photos of the past few years I realized that my hairline must be receding, but it wasn't until recently when I felt like my hair was actually THINNING that I started to get worried. Just the hair up front at the hairline seems to be thin, but it's also def. less dense there.

I've read these forums a bunch and the side effects of propecia/finasteride scare the crap out of me. I mean .. headaches, loss of libido .. I like a full head of hair, but I like to be able to get it up without much effort more!

Little bit about me... I'm 27, run daily (50-70mi/wk) and am a pretty healthy person. My dad was balding severely in his early 20s and I look like a clone of his... except with hair. See what happened to him!

This is me in 2004, this is me in July. Just for kicks .. here I am in 1998.. no hair problems then!!

I know my balding is not terrible at all, I feel like I'm in the early stages, but like I said earlier, finasteride/propecia/whatever seems a bit scary. Do I NEED it or would something like rogaine be good enough?

Hey brad, it looks like a mature hairline to me from that pic, and considering your age it looks normal and acceptable. You may not balding. Do you notice that you 're losing a lot of hair everyday, or has your crown thinned out? Did your hair changed to what it is right now very drastically the last months?

If you're not sure if you have male pattern baldness or not, visit a derm before you get on ANY treatment.

p.s. Don't be afraid of the treatments, the vast majority of hairloss sufferers does not experience any side effect.

I'm not so concerned with the position of my hairline but the hairs on my temples and up front are thinning. I'm getting a haircut tonight so I'll try and get some photos. Back in June I was attending my sister's graduation and went up towards to the stage to take some pictures of her. When I came back my mom said to me "Boy Brad, I think I could see the top of your head through your hair when you were up there"..... NOT GOOD.

I would say that I noticed the changes starting back in like Feb/March. The thinning has been much more recent.

Like I said, I know it's not bad .. but it's better to catch male pattern baldness early, right?

Update: Here's some pics after my haircut.. with circles to show some odd thinning.

Well judgeing from this photo, it's definitely male pattern baldness, i would say you need propecia+rogaine foam combo.

You still have a decent head of hair and i think you can at least keep what you have and possibly regrow alot of your recent loss.

Looks like you have inherited your father's hairloss... you'll be fine if you jump on propecia though. Don't wait around for it to get worse, especially if you know you are losing hair quickly.

you don't look like you need it. Just watch the thinness and the shape. If the corns start moving back from the center, you need finasteride.
