Surely diffuse thinners must use more, also what's the safest max ammount per application at 5%?

For liquid I usually end up using 2-3ml, for foam usually about a full cap

That's just on my hairline

i use about 4.5 ml of liquid in total, once a day, on both hairline and crown. so for that one application i really kinda saturate the areas.

I go through a can of foam every 2 applications.

Had a stress echo and an echo and my heart is perfectly healthy

Maybe I'm doing so well on minoxidil becuase I actually apply it to every spot in the NW7 area

Dude I'm so baffled by this that I actually had to sign up to reply. A can of foam every day?!?!? That is ridiculous - firstly the amount that that must be costing you, secondly - it's completely unnecessary, thirdly, what's your long term strategy here, to use a can every single application when things start to slide? Then two after that? How can you possibly need that much, you must be getting 90% of it on your hair, and if that's the case, you're either doing it wrong, or you need to be using liquid minoxidil instead. Even with a thick head of hair, a capful of foam should be enough to cover the entire NW7 region.

I personally use probably a quarter of a capful per application, as my head is buzzed down to a number 1. A quarter of a capful is more than enough. I used rogaine foam around 9 years ago when I had much more hair and I covered the entire NW7 region with just over half a capful and had great results.

If you're using that much minoxidil in the hope it gets absorbed systemically, then just use oral minoxidil it'll be way cheaper!

To the OP, people just use as much as they need to cover the thinning regions, this can be less than a ml or more than a ml, depending on how much hair you have (both in terms of balding and your haircut). Seems to be well tolerated with some people using 4ml per day in one application. Pavi's example I'm just baffled by though...

I use 1ml of 12.5% Minoxidil in the evening, and 1ml of 5% in the morning. This was the maximum amount I was recommended to stick to.

@Dolph

I don't really get how this is baffling. I have a lot of hair left. I also don't just apply it to the thinnng areas. As a measure of prevention, I apply it in the NW7 area. It does cost me a fortune, and it's not equal to oral at all. I have zero side effects that I'm aware of. I actually had extensive testing (echocardiogram, stress echocardiogram) for a separate issue and my heart was completely normal.

I don't get how you can cover the NW7 area with such little foam. I use it surgically. I parse my hair and cover every inch. This may be why I'm responding so amazingly to the product. It's not getting systemically absorbed for two reasons...

1) my blood pressure isn't low
2) I don't get dizzy

Mainly dude I'm just concerned for your wallet. You absolutely can apply foam to the entire NW7 region using between half a cap and a cap full - putting the foam directly into the cap, parting hair and scooping little by little and applying, or by applying directly to the scalp little blobs and massaging them in, or even by parting your hair, applying 1/4 of a capful sized amounts or less to your fingertips then massaging in to say the frontal region making sure you get a good covering, then repeat for mid scalp, crown etc.

I'd strongly urge you to think long term here, really see if you can cut the amount you use down, or even switch to liquid. With minoxidil you just need to apply a thin layer to all the thinning regions, not absolutely saturate the skin. People have great results using 1ml, just because you're seeing amazing results using essentially 30ml it doesn't follow that it's BECAUSE you're using 30ml

Cool, anyway I was just trying to help, maybe as time goes on with your regime you'll be able to refine your application procedure and cut down the amount you use. Results are important, but it's also important to do it in the most efficient way, in terms of money/time/side effects etc. Glad it's working for you though and hope your progress continues!
