Do we know when aging whether the AR becomes more sensitive or upregulates or both?

Hey all,

I've been trying to research into this but am struggling to find many studies proving either.

Do we know when aging whether our androgen receptors become more sensitive to androgens or the number of androgen receptors upregulate or potentially even both?

Kind Regards,
Nick

The AR itself isn't what changes much. What happens is that with age we lose antiandrogenic molecules which normally compete for the AR and cancel out a certain amount of androgenic activity. Epitestosterone is one of the primary molecules with that purpose.

Of course, in balding follicles this ratio is even more imbalanced than in serum, and probably also only gets worse with age.
