Do you have to shed hair to grow new?

Mite be an obviously STUPID question BUT do you have to shed to actually see results?

I doubt it. I've heard people say this, but I don't know if there's any real evidence to back it up. I wish it was true though, with the amount of hair I've been shedding it would be great if it meant I was going to get excellent regrowth.
