Do You Have To Take Medication To Qualify For A Transplant?

I took .25mg of finasteride EOD last year, and unfortunately experienced sides a couple weeks in, so I terminated the medication. I've since looked into the possibility of doing a transplant in the future. However, from my research, it seems that the surgeons usually ask you to be on medication before and after the transplant. Is this the case with them all, and is there anyone who has had one without being on any medication?
