In this case:

You're 18 and a Norwood 1.
You're 99 % sure your follicles are sensitive to DHT and that you're susceptible to male pattern baldness in the future.
Money is not a concern.

No. I would keep my eye out for thinning and then make the decision once I started to move to NW2. I would certainly act earlier than I did given the chance, but taking lifelong medication when you are a NW1 is pointless as you may never lose your hair or if you do only as far as a mature hairline.

If I'm 99% sure than of course. Though in this case I'd especially do a low-dosage regimen of finasteride to reduce slightly less DHT. It is slightly less since 0.2mg reduces up to 90% as much DHT as 1mg does.

Take pictures and keep a close eye on whats happening. The minute you feel you start losing jump on. Theres no point in doing meds because even if you say you'll get male pattern baldness, you will never know since genes act in a weird way (unpredictable).

I'd advice to just keep a close watch on the situation and have the meds ready.

I would agree, though in his hypothetical it was IF you were 99% certain. Maybe he is 99% certain.

Though the problem with pictures, is that you're probably already losing a good amount of density or hairs, before it comes to the point where you can really notice it with the human eye. I'd probably personally wait until you can notice, since I did this anyways even though waited too friggin long to do something about it!!

If I would've cared when I was 16 and started going to a Norwood 2 I would've done something about it. But I didn't have the knowledge about it nor did someone EVER point it out until I hit the age of 17 then I did something about it when I turned 18.

And its working.

But TEMPLES ARE A b**ch TO GROW.

And Now I care about it again!

Well not as much, but still care about it 50%.

Nope, I wouldn't. Prophylactically taking medication that alters your hormones (particularly at your age) is crazy IMO.

I doubt any doctor would prescribe it for you...which means you'd be obtaining it over the internet, which further compounds the craziness IMO.
