Do you think minoxidil alone would work for me?

Hi.

I have been slowly thinning inwards on my left temple for the past 6 to 8 years. Its been so slow its hard to keep track. Sometimes it itches and burns and hair falls easier than the rest of my head.

I've no visible thinning on my right temple or my crown, just the left and its starting to get more noticeable.

I wanted to avoid finasteride if I could, so debating minoxidil plus microneedling once a week. Already microneedling for a few weeks but can't see its going to help tbh

I am 36

Any thoughts

There's no way we could predict that, dude. Have to give it a try and see what happens. There's like a better than 10% chance that minoxidil doesn't work at all for you. If it works at all, there's like a 50% chance that you will see visible improvements from baseline, and about 50% that it maintains for a bit.

Thanks. Any idea why I'm only thinning on my left. I know it can be asymmetrical but after 8 years I thought the right would be showing signs?

It's strange, dude. It may not be male pattern hair loss, but some other condition. I'd talk to a dermatologist.

With minoxidil, the good thing is that it doesn't care about the cause of the hair loss, so if it works for you, it will work regardless of what condition you have.

Wondered that but I guess the simple answer is male pattern baldness. The hair in that area is poor quality, easy pulled out. I can hardly pull a hair from the right. It also gets itchy at times only in my thinning area.

My dad was already bald at my age, I just find my pattern slightly odd.

It's actually very common for one temple to recede faster than the other. But it may be unusually extreme in your case.
