Does dutasteride definitely have more sides than finasteride?

I'm seriously considering just getting it over with and switching to this already, however I'm concerned about the sides since I already get sides to a degree with finasteride.

Thanks!

Wait until the dutasteride trials are complete. It will be released any week now.

Are the sides similar? Are the dutasteride sides sexual side effects as well? Can anyone who has been on dutasteride chime in?

Well I made the switch about a month or so ago and the sides are pretty intense. The change in sex drive I noticed at about one week.

Positive...
Skin/hair less greasy (less of a problem with clogged pores, etc).

Negative...
Less frequent sexual urges. It's a little annoying but I could get used to it.
A small/moderate but sudden shed that started within the first week, and is starting to level off now.

I don't think I was quite prepared for how quick/strong the side-effects would be.

Keep in mind that the half-life is 4 weeks (and that varies considerably from person to person, some older people in the trials had a half-life that was almost twice that) so be prepared to make this a long term trial. If it effects you in the first week when you only have 3.5 mg of dutasteride in your system, and you eventually end up with much more than that in your body, it could take a long time to get back below 3.5mg. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a physiological reason that Timi had sides so long after stopping.

finasteride inhibits 5AR2 and thus ~70% of serum DHT. dutasteride inhibits both 5AR2 AND 5AR1 (in the brain), thus ~99% of serum DHT.

finasteride has a short half-life (hours), dutasteride has a long one (weeks). 5AR activity / DHT takes anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to return to baseline after finasteride. What do you think the rate will be for dutasteride?

Short answer: Of course the potential for more sides is there from dutasteride; it is more powerful than Finasteride, inhibits both 5AR isozymes (ie, 5AR1 in the brain), and stays in your body for much longer.

You are playing with fire either way, but finasteride is probably the lesser of two evils.

id say pretty much the same as paximperia. i started taking it every day at first and my sex drive dropped pretty quickly, maybe about a week in. i really wasnt prepared for it and its not something id recommend. i never had any sides on finasteride.

dutasteride takes much longer to return to baseline. The package insert says not to donate blood for six months after your last dose. I would use that as the worst case scenario.
