Does exercise help with Propecia weight gain?

I got some side effects from Propecia (have since quit) that include slight weight gain around the chest, midsection, and a rounded face with more fat under the chin. I think this was probably from increased estrogen. Anybody who has gotten this, did doing cardio or lifting weights help, or is this new fat permanent? If exercising did work, what kind of specific stuff did you do?

propecia does not cause weight gain. If anything the testosterone increase will help you build muscle.

People think companies bribe FDA to hide their side effect results. If that was true, why don't they just bribe FDA to say stuff is effective too? FDA looks for hundreds of possible side effects. Just look at the reported side effects of many other drugs. Then Propecia is done with thousandS of men, for 5 years, with placebo side effects practically matching the propecia group, and we still get all these people blaming all their problems on Propecia. I've been on it for years and have not noticed any differences at all, except my hair is thicker.

ok since the lasts posts were nothing but useless, i'm going to try and post something of value.

i'm speaking from experience, not theorizing.

i did get propecia weight gain. it is very difficult to get rid of. the only way to do it is to do cardio and as part of this include sprints.

light cardio will only get your heart in good shape. you need to get your heart into shape before you can start to do the moderate/intense cardio.

rebounding is an excellent way to get your heart into shape. it wont help with the weight, but is an excellent starting point.

lifting weights will increase your mass. you will get heavier. it wont get rid of the things you want it to unless combined with moderate cardio. it's good to do but not required.

They do bribe the FDA to say the stuff is effective. But if they said everything was effective, then they wouldn't have credibility. So as a diversion the FDA will often "turn down" drugs, or make a big show of going after a drug that is supposedly ineffective or dangerous. It is all a big charade. The FDA is firmly in the back pocket of the big pharmaceutical companies. And, clearly, their propaganda is working very well.

I have actually lose about 20 pounds since i started finasteride 1.25 mg every day since april 2008. It could be because of the stress from being an engineer or I hit the gym 5 days a week?

Probably both :woot:

I am an engineer as well, and I always used to lose weight around deadlines. I've lost weight through exercising as well. I haven't really got any excess fat left to lose, if anything I'm trying to put on weight :dunno:

finasteride increases testosterone and estrogen by 15%. On my first two months of finasteride 1mg ED I gained 7.5lbs in 8 weeks. My body fat percentage went from 6.5% to 8%. Since it boosts your testosterone by 15% it should help with muscle gain. Say someone had a 1000ng/dl Testosterone level before propecia, after they would have a 1150ng/dl testosterone level after propecia. A 100ng/dl level increase in testosterone would automatically add 1.1lbs of lean body mass to an individual's frame. Propecia helps with muscle gain and gym performance, in the case that you would take dutasteride then you would experience a 20% increase in testosterone and estrogen instead of 15% with finasteride. Cheers!
