Hey guys ,
Looking forward to take propecia so as not to see the hair loss just for one time. what are the efects of finasteride? what are the side efects? If I took it , the side efects would effect me? could you please illimunate me.? I have been searching for it and some people say I don't take finasteride , it's dangerous, some people say I'm taking it. some of the side efects are psychologic. waiting for your comments... My hair shedding has just started. I'm 20 years old.

Quite a few people experience side effects (at least 2% and much greater according to some studies), but in the majority of cases these side effects disappear after continued use of the medication or upon cessation. The side effects are mostly sexual in nature and involve loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, etc. However for a small (and unknown despite how hard I have been searching for scientific studies) percentage these side effects are PERMANENT and persist even after the medication has been discontinued. Its most likely that you will not experience any side effects from the medication, slightly less likely that your sexual performance will be negatively effected, and even more unlikely that you will become permanently impotent. Not exactly comforting but this is the honest truth. Be wary of people who claim that side effects dont exist or that permanent impotence cannot occur because simply put they are wrong/delusional as there is a large body of scientific evidence that suggests otherwise.

That being said everyone likes to hear anecdotal stories despite their inadequacy in comparison to controlled scientific studies so: I personally have taken 1 mg finasteride daily for four months, experienced annoying sexual side effects for this entire time period, and got fed up and stopped because I enjoy having sex too much. Now roughly two years later I'm trying 0.5 mg daily in hopes of reducing sides. We'll see how that goes. FYI the side effects vanished within a few days of me stopping the medication. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case with everyone. Be cautious.

I will start taking propecia. Are you taking proscar or propecia? Most of the side effects have been with by taking proscar so I'll give it a try. What do you think?

I started off on propecia but moved onto proscar after a year because it is cheaper.

Propecia/proscar have the sam active ingredient - finasteride so take whichever one you want.

Proscar is better isn't it?

Im taking half a tablet of propecia daily. Proscar and Propecia both contain the same identical ingredient, finasteride. Proscar is 5 mg finasteride and Propecia is 1 mg finasteride. Only difference is dosage.

Some doctors have a problem writing a prescription for Proscar since it would be used off-label.. Prescribing drugs off label may have legal repercussions, even though propecia and proscar have the exact same active ingredient.

Make sure your doctor knows Proscar is still finasteride, but just 5mg's worth. If he/she refuses to write you a prescription, find another doctor!
