Does minoxidil grow back sideburns?

Do you guys apply on your sideburns if they are thinning or when there is not much hair left there? Will applying minoxidil just on the scalp itself help the sideburns to grow back?

Is it effective for sideburns (especially nearer to the temples and the ears) generally?
