Does Propecia contain Lactose or not? Does Minixidil work?

Dear guys

Have tried to raise this in the Tell Your Story section - but still have not had a satisfactory answer (no offense to all the repliers - thanks esp. to Cassin) - and i need to know.

I have a lactose intolerance which means I get asthma if it is in my diet. Lactose is commonly found in oral medication; and indeed is the main reason why I have not been able to take Propecia before now.

I have been on Minoxidil and Saw Palmetto for a year until last April when I gave up - because I saw no results. (I have since done the reading on Saw Palmetto by the way.... so maybe no big surpirse I saw no results?)

In the meantime I have been losing hair at exactly the same rate, and have last it from new areas, WHILE on this Regimen.

Please help; I know there must be someone out there who knows more abotu this.

I know nothing abotu :)P) this, I am sure a quick trawl through the web might turn up propecias ingredients.

If it does turn out to have Lactose in, you may be able to get a compounding pharmacy to knock you up Finasteride some minus the lactose?

just an idea.

I have had a look on my packet for the ingrediants to no avail, i think i threw the paper thing away that comes with the packet... nevertheless i once sent an email to merck inquring about propecia and they got back to me pretty swiftly, so i recommend sending them an email describing your situation.

From http://www.rxlist.com:

Finasteride tablets for oral administration are film-coated tablets that contain 1 mg of finasteride and the following inactive ingredients: lactose monohydrate , microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium starch glycolate, docusate sodium, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 2910, hydroxypropyl cellulose, titanium dioxide, talc, yellow ferric oxide, and red ferric oxide.

It seems to me that Finasteride tablets do indeed contain lactose.

As far as I know, the active ingredient, finasteride, is vegan. However, I was unable to find any company manufacturing a pill that had all vegan INactive ingredients. So I decided to have some vegan capsules made for me: I had a compounding pharmacy build me my own custom finasteride capsules using pure finasteride, microcrystalline cellulose, and vegetable capsules. I realize that this is fourteen years later than the last post, but I hope anyone visiting this forum can still benefit.
